2025 saw an unforgettable moment in my life as I, Rod Stewart, was taken aback by the unexpected presence of five of my children during the American Music Awards on a Monday night. They graced the stage to bestow upon me the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.
Due to seeing his family present, the 80-year-old musical legend momentarily slipped up and used a strong, uncensored word, which was later removed from the televised broadcast.
Stewart expressed his deep feeling of being overpowered with emotion, saying affectionately to his children, “I feel utterly swamped that you’re here,” as reported by the DailyMail.com correspondent during the ceremony.
Instead, the broadcast on CBS unexpectedly shifted focus from Stewart during his profanity to an odd angle showing spectators, who inappropriately captured his address on their smartphones.
Rather than letting an expletive sound, CBS seemed to cut off the problematic word, creating a sudden resumption in his speech right in the middle of a word.

Stewart expressed astonishment as he had not anticipated that his children would be participating in the event, let alone introducing him with such warmth.
‘I thought you had recorded it earlier!’ he said of their introduction.
The musician behind “Maggie May” slipped in a somewhat suggestive jest, which apparently didn’t raise too many eyebrows among the censors.
Stewart mentioned that he has a total of eight children, followed by a swift comment, “I didn’t own a television.
‘That was a little joke,’ he said sheepishly to chuckles from the audience.
In the early 60s, before many of you were even born, I began singing out of an intense desire to do so. My passion for it was so strong that it became my sole aspiration. I didn’t yearn for wealth or fame; I simply wanted to sing. Now, a few years later, here I stand receiving this beautiful award.
He concluded his brief speech with a performance of his classic tune Forever Young.
The rendition of the tune was grandiose, showcasing a central part where the spotlight shone on his female vocalists and tap dancers.

Following a quick, individual tapping performance, the two violinists then played a harmonious duet, accompanied by a rhythmic marching bass drum. This was later followed by another rendition of “Forever Young” for a grand and climactic ending to the AMAs performance.
At the event, there were five out of Stewart’s total eight children present: Kimberly (age 45), Sean (age 44), Ruby (age 37), Renee (age 32), and Liam (age 30).
One of the children who were absent from the performance was Stewart’s oldest child, Sarah Streeter, who is 61 years old.)
Back in 2010, on The Joy Behar Show, Stewart discussed why him and Sarah’s mom, his former partner Susannah Boffey, were not capable of providing the necessary care for their child at that time.
He remembered that when he was around 17 or 18 years old, his mother was given up for adoption. At that time, he was financially struggling greatly, which led to her being adopted.
Even though Stewart didn’t seem to be present in Sarah’s life during her younger years, he assumed a more significant position in her life following the demise of her adoptive parents.
He mentioned that they have been making efforts to spend more time together and it’s going quite smoothly for them. He also admitted that he didn’t traditionally feel like a father figure because he didn’t perform typical fatherly duties such as taking her to school or changing her diapers, but he’s currently trying to step into that role.
Besides Stewart, there are also two more children who aren’t around as often – his youngest sons, Alistair (age 19) and Aiden (age 14). These boys are his offspring with his current spouse, Penny Lancaster, whom he tied the knot with in 2007.

The singer known for “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?” had his first two children, Kimberly and Sean, during his marriage to Alana Collins, a union that spanned from 1979 to 1984.
In 1987, he met his daughter Ruby along with his former girlfriend, Kelly Emberg. His first two children, Renee and Liam, were born during his marriage to Rachel Hunter, a model, which lasted from 1990 to 2006.
In 2025, the American Music Awards were broadcasted live on CBS, and Jennifer Lopez served as the host. For those residing in the United States, the awards ceremony can be streamed online via Paramount+.
2021 saw the American Music Awards being broadcasted on CBS for the first time, having been aired on ABC since 1974.
2023 saw the event being broadcast live for the first time in over a year, as it resumed after a break caused by ABC’s Grammys agreement ending.
