Renowned actress, Miriam Margolyes, has shared that she doesn’t have much time left following a significant heart surgery.
In an interview, the 83-year-old actress famous for portraying Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter series disclosed that she opted for a medical procedure to prevent needing a more invasive open-heart surgery scheduled for 2023.
Here, they replaced the malfunctioning aortic valve of the star (presumably an animal or mechanical entity) with one from a pig.
In a recent conversation, she expressed that, given her limited time, she intends to continue acting for as long as she can, as it brings her immense pleasure.
The celebrity shared with The Times: “Given that I might not have many years left (possibly less than five or six), I’m reluctant to stop performing. It brings me so much happiness.
‘I yearn to play roles that don’t confine me to wheelchairs, but I’m just not strong enough.’Â

In the year 2002, Miriam made her debut as Professor Sprout in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets film.
On the Jessie and Lennie Ware’s Table Manners podcast, she shared that she now has a cow’s aortic valve instead of her original one – not the entire cow heart though. It was replaced during a medical procedure.
It’s not clear how frequently that procedure is performed. To be honest, I had no prior knowledge of such an operation. However, it allows you to avoid open-heart surgery, a significantly more intrusive alternative.
This British actress has faced various health challenges throughout her life, such as spinal narrowing (spinal stenosis), joint inflammation (arthritis), and issues related to the musculoskeletal system (rheumatism).
She is registered disabled and has to use walking sticks and a mobility scooter to get around.Â
She told Closer: ‘I can’t walk very well, and I’m registered disabled.Â
As a die-hard enthusiast, I’ve found myself relying on various aids to navigate my world. Crutches, a walker, you name it, I’ve tried it all – and honestly, they can be quite a drag. But recently, I’ve discovered the joy of zipping around in a mobility scooter, and let me tell you, it’s like a breath of fresh air!
After careful consideration, she expressed doubt about returning to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe once more, even though her passion for pursuing what she enjoys remains undiminished.

She shared with the Metro that she frequently experiences discomfort, saying: “I regularly have physical discomfort… My health issues make living tough, so it’s doubtful I’ll participate in [Edinburgh Fringe] again.
‘But I love connecting with an audience, and I love sharing my knowledge and love of Dickens.’Â
She later told Loose Women that a time will come when she will need carers.Â
The actress emphasized that she acknowledges the significance of this task, and aspires to compensate generously those taking care of her.
She expressed: “On a certain day, I’ll require caregivers. I prefer to feel at ease, and it is essential that they are adequately compensated.
‘It is really because I want to make money though and they pay me to do it.’Â
