Tom Cruise set to pocket Hollywood’s biggest-ever payday with £100million deal to return as Maverick in Top Gun 3

Tom Cruise made £75 million from Top Gun: Maverick, the 2022 follow-up to the 1986 film, because his contract included a significant share of the movie’s massive earnings at the box office.

And now Tom Cruise is set to pocket Hollywood’s biggest-ever pay-cheque for Top Gun 3.

Tom Cruise is projected to earn around £100 million for reprising his role as Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell, and he’ll also be back as a producer on future films in the popular series.

It is scheduled to be released in the summer of 2028.

Tom Cruise is expected to earn £18 million for the new film, plus around 8% of its profits. If ‘Top Gun 3’ performs as well as the previous one, which earned £1.1 billion, Cruise could make over £75 million in total.

Top Gun 3 was confirmed by Paramount film co-head Josh Greenstein at Las Vegas CinemaCon last week. 

Jerry Bruckheimer, the film’s producer, along with Tom Cruise and co-writer Ehren Kruger, are currently developing the screenplay.

A Paramount executive stated yesterday that Top Gun: Maverick was Tom Cruise’s most successful film and played a key role in reviving moviegoing after the pandemic.

‘There is no Top Gun without Tom, so the initial salary is a given.

Tom Cruise is receiving a significant share of the profits from ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ because David Ellison, the current owner of Paramount and head of Skydance, produced the film and strongly believes in Tom’s value.

‘He is confident this film will earn over a billion dollars.’

Joseph Kosinski directed the sequel to Top Gun, featuring Miles Teller and Glen Powell as new pilots trained by Tom Cruise’s character.

Paramount CEO Bob Ellison has made a third Top Gun movie a major focus, and he plans to continue collaborating with Tom Cruise on future projects as long as Cruise wants to work with him. They’ve already made ten films together.
