Amazon’s ‘Secret Level’ Is the Perfect Sci-Fi Action Weekend Binge-Watch

It’s the weekend, and if you’re looking for something to watch, Amazon Prime Video has some excellent options, particularly in the sci-fi action category. While shows like Fallout and The Expanse are popular choices, Secret Level is a fantastic, often overlooked series that’s perfect for a weekend binge.

Okay, so I just finished watching Secret Level, and it’s honestly a really unique take on video game adaptations. Instead of focusing on one specific game, it’s an anthology series that jumps between the worlds of 15 different franchises. It’s wild to see these familiar universes brought to life in a way you wouldn’t normally experience – without actually playing the game. Honestly, even if you’re not a huge gamer, I think there’s still plenty to enjoy here. It’s a fun ride!

‘Secret Level’ Is the Best Sci-Fi Action Show to Binge-Watch on Amazon Prime Video Right Now

Think of Secret Level as a mix between Netflix’s Love, Death & Robots and a video game. Because it’s on Amazon Prime, the show has a built-in advantage: Amazon already offers lots of free and discounted games, making it easier to bring those game worlds to life on screen. The 15-episode series takes viewers on new adventures within popular video game settings. You’ll see stories like rescuing a boy from a cult in the Dungeons & Dragons universe or trying to escape a haunted maze in Pac-Man, all designed to make you feel like you’re actually inside the game.

Secret Level Episode Video Game Franchise
“Dungeons & Dragons: The Queen’s Cradle” Dungeons & Dragons
“Sifu: It Takes a Life” Sifu
“New World: The Once and Future King” New World: Aeternnum
“Unreal Tournament: Xan” Unreal Tournament
“Warhammer 40,000: And They Shall Know No Fear” Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2
“Pac-Man: Circle” Pac-Man (Shadow Labyrinth)
“Crossfire: Good Conflict” Crossfire
“Armored Core: Asset Management” Armored Core
“The Outer Worlds: The Company We Keep” The Outer Worlds
“Mega Man: Start” Mega Man
“Exodus: Odyssey” Exodus
“Spelunky: Tally” Spelunky
“Concord: Tale of the Implacable” Concord
“Honor of Kings: The Way of All Things” Honor of Kings
“Playtime: Fulfillment” PlayStation

There are many reasons why Secret Level is so good and different. Some of the video games featured haven’t been made into movies or shows before, so Secret Level is a first look at how they might work on screen. The episode based on “Warhammer 40,000: And They Shall Know No Fear” also gives viewers a preview of Amazon’s upcoming Warhammer 40k series with Henry Cavill. While the show won’t be exactly like the Secret Level episode, it’s still interesting to see what could be in store. While not perfect, Secret Level is a strong start, and the show can build on what it’s learned.

Many viewers felt the God of War episode of Secret Level wasn’t worth watching because Kratos only makes a very short appearance. While it’s understandable to be disappointed, it’s important to remember that Playtime: Fulfillment focuses on a variety of characters from the PlayStation world, not just God of War. There’s still a lot for fans to appreciate about this adventure.

I have to say, even though Secret Level got a bit of a mixed reaction when it first came out, it was quickly picked up for a second season, which is awesome! It’s been building a really dedicated fanbase since then, and honestly, I’m getting super hyped for what’s next. The creator is aiming for a whopping ten seasons, and with all the different video game worlds they can explore, the possibilities seem endless! If you haven’t checked out this incredible sci-fi action series yet, I’d recommend doing it soon – especially with news about Season 2 likely coming any time now.
