“I’m waiting for my call”: Sarah Michelle Gellar wants to reprise this iconic role

Sarah Michelle Gellar expressed her desire to take on her character from ‘Scream 2’ once again, mentioning that she’s been eagerly anticipating the opportunity, hinting at being on standby for the call.

In the sequel of the horror series, the actor portrayed Cici Cooper, a student attending Windsor College, who was viciously killed by the malevolent Ghostface after being pushed off her sorority house balcony.

Almost thirty years since the initial movie, Kevin Williamson’s series remains robust, gearing up for the release of its seventh installment next year. Notably, some original actors like Scott Foley and Matthew Lillard are coming back, even though their on-screen characters were previously declared dead.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Gellar expressed her desire to rejoin the Scream series, possibly as Cici again or a new character. However, she revealed that efforts to be part of Scream 7 were unsuccessful as no one was interested in having her on board.

Originally, they were returning everyone to the set. I kept anticipating a phone call, but it never came. Yet, many characters who perished in the various Scream films seem to have resurrected. Skeet [Ulrich] and [Matthew] Lillard are among them. To put it simply, I’m just holding out for my own return call.

It has been stated that despite Gellar’s expressed desire to continue with the Scream series, she allegedly declined the offer to reprise her character as Helen Shivers in the upcoming sequel of I Know What You Did Last Summer, set for release in July.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson expressed, “I attempted to get Gellar back, right?” She admitted, “I pestered her! But she’s deceased. I even suggested some outrageous ideas. I said something like, ‘What if it’s not that you’re dead, but you’ve been living in hiding instead?’

As a devoted admirer, I remember the director expressing, “She told me, ‘I was as good as frozen. I was as close to being gone as one could be.’ To which I responded, ‘But imagine if…?’ She replied, ‘I am Sarah Gellar, the deceased.'” This is a rephrasing of their original dialogue that maintains the essence and tone while making it more personal and easier to read.

As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to share that although Sarah Michelle Gellar won’t be making an appearance in the revival of “I Know What You Did Last Summer”, she’s set to star in the upcoming sequel series of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”. In this new adventure, her timeless character will join forces with a young witch, portrayed by Ryan Kiera Armstrong, to combat a fresh danger.

Scream 7 is currently scheduled for release on February 27, 2026.
