In the movie “Mission: Impossible – Fallout”, there’s a hidden detail that attentive viewers could possibly overlook.

The movie appears to be the final adventure for Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt and his team, marking the conclusion of a film franchise that started in 1996.

The specific year of its release is crucial for understanding this Easter egg, so be warned, there might be a few light spoilers ahead.

In the movie, Angela Bassett’s character, U.S. President Erika Sloane, hands a note to Ethan that he is supposed to deliver to the role portrayed by Hannah Waddingham, who plays Rear Admiral Neely.

He requires flying Neely’s plane to reach the wreckage of the Sevastopol submarine, yet she seems hesitant. This is where the letter becomes important.

The note bears the date May 22, 1996, which marks a significant mission for both Sloane and Neely, as during this time, they each experienced the loss of someone dear to them.

The President argues that the mission might have been successful if they had dared to take a chance, and for this reason, she believes it’s wise to take a risk with Ethan at present.

However, in reality, that date marks the release of the first Mission: Impossible movie in American theaters.

Instead of revealing if the series will continue or not, Cruise has preferred to let viewers experience it and enjoy: “I’d rather you all simply see it and have fun, as we’ve had an incredible time making it, and it’s been a delightful journey. I just hope you all find joy in it.
