MB&F’s SP One Is a Timepiece With a Gravity-Defying Appearance

Summary

  • MB&F launches SP One, its “Special Projects” debut
  • The 38mm watch features three “levitating” elements and an in-house movement
  • Available in 18k rose gold and platinum versions

MB&F introduces SP One as the first piece in their innovative new “Specialized Projects” series.

Approaching its 20th milestone, this brand looks back on its unique strategy that’s fueled solely by creativity instead of business strategies or market studies. This creative ethos has led the independent watchmaker to revisit old designs, transforming intuitive ideas left unexplored into avant-garde timepieces. The SP One, nestled between their Horological Machines and Legacy Machines, embodies an elusive style. Its three levitating components – barrel, balance wheel, and dials – seem to hover within the case, giving a floating effect.

Nestled in a spherical case measuring 38mm, the SP One embodies subtle sophistication with its borderless design and separated strap attachments. Surprisingly compact for an MB&F creation, it maintains the brand’s signature three-dimensional structure and imaginative artistry. The internal mechanism is an in-house development that revolves around the core elements of a traditional mechanical watch, showcasing the iconic balance wheel at 2 o’clock, a tilted dial highlighting the company’s skill in conical gearing, and a manually wound barrel providing a generous 72-hour power reserve. Sapphire glass on both sides intensifies the sensation of levitation, giving the impression that the movement is suspended within its beautifully crafted housing.

Available in two unique variations, one featuring an 18k rose gold case and anthracite dial priced at $76,000 USD, the other boasting a platinum construction with a sky-blue dial priced at $82,000 USD – further details can be found on MB&F’s official website.
