Elisabeth Moss Shuts Down Wild Taylor Swift Cameo Theory in The Handmaid’s Tale Finale
As the series approaches its conclusion, some viewers speculate that a popular singer might have been secretly included within it, as an amusing Easter egg. Yet, the leading actress Elizabeth Moss has definitively refuted this fan hypothesis.
In the most recent installment of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” the initial scenes were accompanied by Taylor Swift’s song, “Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor’s Version).” At a certain point in the same episode, June (played by Moss) and others are heading towards trucks as members of the Mayday uprising emerge to welcome them. Among this group, one individual stands taller than the rest, yet their face remains hidden. This has sparked a widely discussed fan theory suggesting that Swift secretly appeared in the show, but when asked about this speculation directly, Moss confirmed it is not accurate.
Moss expressed that it’s certainly not the case, revealing this is the first she’s learned about the theory. “Of course it’s not her,” she said, finding the idea amusing. “I enjoy the concept, though. The reason we were so eager for this moment is because of the intense fan engagement on Handmaid’s, and combining that with Swifties makes it even more exciting – it’s like a perfect match! So no, I’m sorry to disappoint, but it’s not Taylor. She has a packed schedule, and if she was going to appear in our show, we would have made sure everyone knew about it.
Previously, there were hints suggesting that Moss might be a Swift fan, and now a video has surfaced where Swift acknowledges Moss’s support for her music while expressing her own admiration for Moss’s TV show. This increase in evidence makes it possible that a cameo appearance by Moss in one of Swift’s works could be a reality.
As a movie enthusiast, I couldn’t help but notice the perfect alignment of events for Taylor Swift to make a cameo, despite her hectic schedule. Even though she was engrossed in filming her own project at the time, she managed to squeeze in a stopover in Toronto, where ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ was being filmed. Interestingly enough, Elisabeth Moss and co-star Bradley Whitford had caught Taylor Swift performing live, and they even shared a snapshot of the moment on social media. However, it turned out that this was just a delightful coincidence and nothing more substantial came out of it.
The Cast Are Fans But There Was No Cameo
Moss clarified, “Absolutely, I’ll address your insightful comment. You see, many of us attended Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Toronto back in November, which has kept her on my mind quite a bit. But it’s not just that; her album ‘Reputation’ was released during our show’s fourth season, and the cast and I were absolutely captivated by it. Taylor Swift and many of us have had a long-standing affection for each other. In fact, Josh Charles even appeared in one of her music videos. Using her music has been something I’ve wanted to do since… well, from the very start! [Laughs] I was going to say, ‘Since I became a director,’ but it’s been on my mind since the beginning! I’m thrilled that we didn’t incorporate her music earlier and waited until now. Now that we have it, I’m so glad it transpired as it did.
The Handmaid’s Tale is streaming on Hulu.
