5 Shocking Secrets About the 2026 WandaVision Sequel You Need to Know!
In 2026, the Disney+ series titled “Vision Quest” is set to be a follow-up to the popular show “WandaVision“. The showrunner recently shared some interesting details in an interview. Previously, “WandaVision” had two sequels within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), namely “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” and “Agatha All Along“, which continued significant storylines from Marvel Studios’ first Disney+ series. However, Paul Bettany’s character, Vision, has not appeared since the 2021 series finale. But fear not, justice for Vision will be served in 2026 with his own Disney+ sequel, “Vision Quest“.
The upcoming series, titled “Vision Quest,” is being developed by Terry Matalas who has worked on “Star Trek: Picard.” It will feature the character White Vision, portrayed by Bettany, following his reconstruction by SWORD. In this storyline, he endeavors to recover his lost memories and rediscover his humanity. The production for this Disney+ sequel, set to be released in 2026, is currently underway in the U.K. Alongside Bettany, James Spader will reprise his role as Ultron, while Faran Tahir, known for playing the Ten Rings leader from “Iron Man,” will appear as Raza. Additional cast members include Ruaridh Mollica and Todd Stashwick in undisclosed roles.
5 Things to Know About Marvel Studios’ Vision Quest
As a dedicated fan, I’ve stumbled upon some captivating tidbits about Terry Matalas’ upcoming Disney+ series, straight from the horse’s mouth – or rather, directly from Matalas himself during his chat with Katee Sackhoff on her podcast, “The Sackhoff Show.” These intriguing revelations are particularly enticing considering that details regarding the sequel to Marvel Cinematic Universe’s “WandaVision” remain tightly under wraps as filming progresses.
Marvel Studios Had Specific Plans for Vision Quest
in other words, he had some flexibility.
The experience has been wonderful overall, yet there was a certain aspect that presented a challenge. To put it simply, there was a specific requirement or premise, but there were numerous ways to fulfill it. Essentially, if one wanted to execute this particular task, then they would also need to consider these additional aspects.
He went on to describe the series as a truly collaborative endeavor, emphasizing that it was something truly extraordinary.
As a movie enthusiast, I must say, this filmmaking journey has been nothing short of extraordinary and uniquely collaborative – an absolute pleasure! It’s not about the biggest studio in town; it’s about the passion, creativity, and camaraderie that make this project truly special. Yet, there’s a certain level of apprehension as they encourage us to take risks, to push boundaries, and step onto that mammoth stage for a grand swing. But with their unwavering support, I believe we’ve found our sweet spot, and I can’t wait to see what magic unfolds on the silver screen!
An Opportunity to Elevate Canon
The MCU showrunner suggested that the series could potentially enhance established stories, create new plotlines, or possibly adjust certain elements.
In my opinion, there are numerous methods for narrating stories that align with the established universe or ‘canon’. Additionally, these approaches provide a chance not only to enhance the original material but also to subtly adjust certain aspects if needed. This flexibility often results in a more engaging tale, which I find appealing.
Matalas pointed out that creating content for a significant franchise like the MCU can be challenging due to the extensive amount of material already established, which sometimes requires them to navigate through unfamiliar storylines or deal with other simultaneous projects.
It can be enjoyable, yet challenging, especially in scenarios such as Star Trek or Marvel, where there’s an overwhelming amount of content. The difficulty arises when one tries to create something unique and compelling, only to discover that a similar storyline has already been told or is currently being produced without prior knowledge.
Terry Matalas Considers the Fans, Teases Familiar Faces
As a devoted cinephile myself, I’m often asked about the role of fans in shaping our show, and let me tell you, they absolutely do! Their passion and insights are like fuel for us storytellers, guiding our creative journey as we weave each episode.
While Matalas might take the fans’ reactions into account during his MCU premiere, he made it clear that he would not hesitate to make an intriguing decision simply due to fan expectations.
As a film enthusiast, I understand the passion of fans for their beloved stories. However, it’s crucial not to disregard them entirely while creating something new. Yet, being overly cautious about fan expectations can sometimes prevent us from making bold, intriguing choices. After all, even as fans ourselves, we may not always know what’s best for the story. Sometimes, a fresh take on an old idea, such as bringing back a familiar character, might seem unnecessary at first, but when executed skillfully, it can breathe new life into the narrative. So, while we should listen to our audience, we must also tread carefully and trust our creative instincts.
He emphasized that fans sometimes misunderstand reviving a character as merely being driven by “nostalgia,” when in reality, he views it as “exploring an established concept from a fresh perspective.
It’s possible that Matalas is hinting at the return of either James Spader’s Ultron or Faran Tahir’s Raza. If they do return, it would make history in the MCU as they would be making their first appearance since Iron Man and setting a new record for the longest gap between roles.
Connections to WandaVision & Agatha All Along
Terry Matalas showed a confirming gesture when asked if “Vision Quest” is linked directly to “WandaVision” and “Agatha All Along”.
The connections to “WandaVision” are predictable, but the revelation of links to “Agatha All Along” is much more intriguing and unexpected. This could potentially hint that Joe Locke’s character Billy Maximoff may resurface in “Vision Quest”, possibly to continue his pursuit of his brother Tommy, who are both sons of Wanda and Vision.
During the interview, he tactfully avoided answering if any recurring Marvel Cinematic Universe characters might show up. However, he hinted that the storyline will indeed involve time travel, as it delves into Vision’s journey of self-discovery and acceptance of his identity, a theme explored in ‘WandaVision’.
Actress: “Was the timeline a factor in your series, and might we encounter some characters appearing later on?
Matalas: “From other things?”
Sackhoff: “You’re not allowed to inform me about it. It’s hard to even contemplate, but if you did, Disney might end up terminating me, and then they might also take action against you.
At the end of WandaVision, the original Vision was reconstructed, turned into a weapon, but later discovered his identity and accepted it. He then flew away.
Although WandaVision and Agatha All Along have links to her character, it’s uncertain if Elizabeth Olsen will reprise her role as Wanda Maximoff. However, a source hinted that there might be a chance she could show up in the Disney+ series.
Follows White Vision’s Journey
Katee Sackhoff inquired about the series focusing on White Vision, and Terry Matalas clarified that while it’s not an expression widely used these days, the series indeed traces White Vision’s journey.
Sure thing!
“Yes, he goes by that name. While it might be best not to mention ‘White Vision’ too often here, that’s his identity and he’s sticking to it, following the path of that character and exploring his journey.
Matalan might not prefer the moniker “White Vision” for the synthetic Avenger, indicating that he could be referred to as just “Vision” in the upcoming Disney+ series. This is because Vision seems to embark on a quest to regain his identity within the new body that SWORD has created.
I too chimed in with a hint of playfulness, saying “Perhaps it is” when Sackhoff contemplated if the series might be Vision’s “path to self-awareness.” This suggests a captivating character arc for the seasoned Marvel Cinematic Universe hero.
