Hayley Atwell, who stars alongside Tom Cruise in the Mission: Impossible series, believes she understands why he continues to act. “Tom explained on his final day of filming that making movies isn’t something he does; it’s an integral part of who he is and what he loves,” she said during a recent interview. “Given his exceptional piloting skills and his known affection for speed, I think Tom was simply born this way.

She continued, “It’s inherent in his character. As he recounted stories about his childhood, he was always leaping from things, scaling objects, and seeking out challenges. He was born fearless and daring, traits that have since been reflected in his films. He has found a way to embody this lifestyle while simultaneously captivating audiences with it. Thus, his adventurous spirit is a significant aspect of his personality.

In response to a query about Tom Cruise’s feelings before performing his stunts, Atwell shared that “Tom doesn’t let fear hold him back. It’s truly inspiring! If he were fearless, it wouldn’t feel authentic or human. Emotions, including fear, are part of being human, and Tom embraces them without letting them hinder him.

Atwell Had A Scary Experience Herself

Despite not being on par with Tom Cruise’s skill level, Atwell still got to join him for an exhilarating underwater scene together. Cruise himself has shared details about this particular scene, revealing that as they were filming it, he acknowledged their participation.

In the underwater scenes for the film, Atwell needed to master self-control over her feelings. As she explained to the Hollywood Reporter, “Underwater work requires a state of deep relaxation and tranquility. If you start panicking or think, “I’m underwater, I can’t breathe,” it becomes risky. You must find inner peace and maintain it. I found this process very calming and meditative, and I enjoyed it as an opportunity to learn a new skill for the movie that I can apply later.
