Kelly Clarkson Hilariously Trolls Blake Shelton
Season 27 of “The Voice” concluded in the 2025 television lineup with a grand finale where ex-coaches Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson made an appearance to perform their fresh singles. If you were among those who tuned into the results show, you might have shared my feelings of disappointment that they didn’t engage more, as we always enjoyed their friendly competition. However, Clarkson managed to outsmart Shelton in a charming manner, playfully trolling him.
Kelly Clarkson documented her return to the West Coast, where she performed “Where Have You Been,” the single off of her upcoming album that was inspired by Only Murders in the Building’s Martin Short. The video on Instagram made me surprisingly emotional, knowing it’s unlikely Clarkson will return as a coach. Check it out for yourself:

It appeared that the experience was extremely intense for her, given that she had been part of the series for nine seasons spanning from 2018 to 2023. The heartwarming video captured her struggling to express her emotions as she donned a stunning black sequined pantsuit adorned with feathers on the sleeves that flowed dramatically.
Then there was the trolling.
While strolling through the well-known studio, Kelly Clarkson couldn’t resist pointing out the usual spot where Blake Shelton often sits in his chair. Upon approaching it, she remarked:
Oh my God, I’m gonna sit in Blake’s old chair.
After picking up her coffee cup, she stepped inside and appeared quite satisfied as she took her seat on the throne.

It’s likely that the singer who made “Since U Been Gone” didn’t intend any disrespect towards Adam Levine, considering she referred to Blake Shelton’s chair as an “old” one. Even Maroon 5’s frontman has used similar language when complaining about the downside of being a coach on The Voice again after 10 seasons.
It was a bit disheartening not to witness Kelly Clarkson joining forces again with Adam Levine and/or Blake Shelton, as hoped. However, it was still enjoyable seeing the original coaches engage in friendly rivalries reminiscent of past times. Carson Daly even hinted at a possible reunion between the country crooner and the Maroon 5 frontman on The Voice’s iconic red chairs someday.
Despite my lingering doubts regarding Blake Shelton’s comeback, the persistent whispers that Kelly Clarkson might be considering wrapping up her daytime talk show have me contemplating if this could potentially pave a way for him to revisit Los Angeles occasionally for another season of The Voice. It’s essential to note that any issues surrounding The Kelly Clarkson Show are merely speculation at this point, and no definitive announcements have been made about her contract renewal next year.
Without a doubt, neither Blake Shelton nor Kelly Clarkson (neither Adam Levine) will serve as coaches on Season 28 of The Voice when the show resumes this fall. Michael Bublé aims to achieve his third victory, facing off against two-time champion Niall Horan. Reba McEntire and Snoop Dogg will also join them as coaches. Keep an eye out for the release date.
