‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars’ release dates pushed back
The Avengers will return slightly later than expected.
Disney has decided to postpone the release of its upcoming “Avengers” films, with “Avengers: Doomsday” now scheduled for a theater debut on December 18, 2026, and “Avengers: Secret Wars” set to be released on December 17, 2027. These movies were initially planned for May in their respective years.
Marvel Studios revealed their fifth “Avengers” movie, titled “Doomsday,” at San Diego Comic-Con in July. This upcoming film will see the return of directors Anthony and Joe Russo, who previously worked on “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” (2014), “Captain America: Civil War” (2016), “Avengers: Infinity War” (2018) and “Avengers: Endgame” (2019). Additionally, Robert Downey Jr., known for his role as Iron Man, will be portraying the new antagonist Doctor Doom.
Movies
Marvel’s “Thunderbolts” includes two after-credit sequences, offering hints about the upcoming events in Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In March, Marvel unveiled, during a live stream lasting over five hours, 27 actors from the “Doomsday” project. This ensemble features notable “Avengers” veterans such as Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/Captain America), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), Paul Rudd (Scott Lang/Ant-Man), and Tom Hiddleston (Loki). Additionally, it includes actors from the upcoming “Thunderbolts” team (also known as the New Avengers), which consists of Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), David Harbour (Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian), Lewis Pullman (Bob Reynolds), Wyatt Russell (John Walker), and Hannah John-Kamen (Ava Starr/Ghost).
In the upcoming movie “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” slated for release on July 25, fans will get their first glimpse of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s latest superhero team, the Fantastic Four. The cast includes Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm. This film will serve as the start of Phase 6 in the MCU. Currently, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” produced jointly by Sony and Marvel, is the only confirmed MCU film scheduled for release between July 25, 2024, and “Doomsday” on July 31, 2026.
In simple terms, the television part of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 5 will end with the debut of “Ironheart,” set to air on Disney+ starting from June 24.
As a movie enthusiast, I’m excited about the latest updates from Disney! The much-anticipated sequel to “The Devil Wears Prada,” featuring Meryl Streep’s iconic character Miranda Priestly navigating the tumultuous world of magazine publishing, has been set for a release on May 1, 2026. This reporter can’t help but feel that it might be eerily prescient! Additionally, Ridley Scott’s post-apocalyptic adaptation of “The Dog Stars” is slated to premiere on March 27, 2026. Can hardly wait!
