Billy Joel cancels all of his upcoming shows after revealing brain disorder diagnosis
As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I have some disappointing news to share – I’ve learned that Billy Joel has decided to call off all his forthcoming performances due to a recently discovered brain condition affecting both his physical and cognitive abilities.
76-year-old Joel is diagnosed with Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH), as announced on his social media this week. The statement explained that his condition has become more severe due to recent concerts, causing issues with his hearing, sight, and equilibrium.

Billy Joel is delaying his tour for a span of four months in order to concentrate on his wellbeing and recuperation following an unspecified health issue. In his own words, ‘My health needs to take priority.’
According to his doctor’s recommendations, Billy is currently going through a particular course of physical therapy. He has been asked to avoid any performances during his healing process.
In Non-obstructive Hydrocephalus (NPH), symptoms arise when cerebrospinal fluid builds up in the brain’s ventricles without an accompanying increase in pressure. As per the Alzheimer’s Association, one of the noticeable signs is difficulty walking. Affected individuals often adopt a stance with wide legs and lean their bodies forward, suggesting they are trying to stabilize themselves like someone on a rocking boat.
According to the organization’s site, one more sign is a decrease in cognitive abilities, such as slower thinking, reduced enthusiasm for everyday activities, increased forgetfulness, temporary memory loss, and challenges with performing routine tasks. As the condition progresses, issues with bladder control might arise.
One of the rare conditions leading to dementia or cognitive impairment that can be managed or even reversed through proper treatment, according to their site, is Non-specific Hydrocephalus (NPH). Typically, medical intervention for this condition involves installing a shunt. Sadly, it’s frequently mistaken for Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease.
Television
Actor Danny Bonaduce from the TV show ‘The Partridge Family’ shared that it took him visiting over a hundred physicians to finally receive a diagnosis of hydrocephalus. Soon, he is scheduled for brain surgery.
In 2023, Danny Bonaduce, who is famous for “The Partridge Family,” radio, and wrestling, was diagnosed with Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH). During an interview in 2024, the 65-year-old explained that at first, he believed he had experienced a stroke. However, medical professionals initially thought it might be early-onset dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. It wasn’t until nearly a year later that he received an accurate diagnosis.
It seems that Bonaduce’s memory loss is quite significant, as evidenced by an incident during an interview. He displayed a photo of himself in a wheelchair inspecting the house where he and his wife currently reside. Strikingly, he claimed to have no recollection of visiting this location on multiple occasions prior to their move there.
On Friday, following his mid-March disclosure about postponing his upcoming tour to focus on recuperating from an undisclosed medical procedure and subsequent physical therapy, Billy Joel shared that he was aiming for a complete health restoration.
Currently, it can be expressed that Joel is “grateful for the high-quality care he’s getting and has made a decision to put his health first as a priority.” Additionally, he eagerly anticipates the moment when he can perform on stage again.

Music
As I sit down to pen my thoughts on the upcoming concert featuring none other than the legendary Joel and Stevie Nicks at SoFi Stadium, I find myself reminiscing about the stories behind some of his most iconic tunes. One such song that has always stood out for me is ‘Piano Man,’ a piece inspired by his experiences at a New York piano bar, where he would play night after night, connecting with strangers and finding solace in their shared moments.
As we prepare to bid farewell to this musical maestro on one of his many farewell tours, it’s fascinating to see how some of his ’70s hits have evolved over time. Among them is the tune he now refers to as ‘dreary,’ a poignant reminder of a bygone era that continues to resonate with audiences today.
I can hardly wait for Friday night, as I’ll be there, soaking in every note and cherishing the memories that Joel and Stevie will undoubtedly create at SoFi Stadium. This is one concert you won’t want to miss!
Joel apologized genuinely for any letdown experienced by the audience, and expressed gratitude for their understanding,” stated on Friday.
Towards the end of February, the artist known for “Just the Way You Are” stumbled after his rendition of “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me” in Connecticut. He swiftly regained his footing; whether this fall was related to his illness or just a random occurrence is yet undetermined.
