Among the strong contenders for the next James Bond in Amazon’s upcoming remake, there is one frontrunner who has enthusiastically expressed interest, stating “count me in” when asked about his continued involvement. As of now, it remains unclear who will succeed Daniel Craig post-2021’s “No Time to Die,” but with speculation swirling and the project moving forward swiftly, an announcement about the new Bond may not be far off. However, it is not yet certain if Henry Golding, star of “Crazy Rich Asians” and “The Old Guard 2,” will be the one to slip into the iconic suit.
In conversation with RadioTimes, Golding expressed his gratitude at being thought of as a possible candidate for the part of James Bond in the upcoming action franchise remake, stating that it was an honor to even be considered for such a legendary character.
Without a doubt, participating in discussions about such a property is truly an honor. Regardless of the outcome, my enthusiasm, being a devoted fan of that series, remains high, eagerly awaiting how they might further develop it.
If given the leading role in Bond 26, Lashana Lynch, who has previously starred in Snake Eyes and Another Simple Favor, would make history as the first actor of color to portray the iconic spy character, James Bond. Yet, contrary to popular expectation, she believes there should be no need for the character’s ethnicity to be altered, stating that there should be no pressure to change the essence of 007.
It can be beneficial at times to remain faithful to the original work and consider James Bond as Ian Fleming envisioned him.
Henry Golding Will Demonstrate His Affinity for Action in Netflix’s ‘The Old Guard 2’
Moving forward, Henry Golding expressed that if he didn’t secure the main role, he’d still be thrilled to contribute in some capacity within the franchise. He even suggested a potential spin-off for 008, hinting at the “lucky Chinese number,” which undoubtedly sparked ideas at Amazon. The studio is probably contemplating ways to broaden the series beyond the tales of James Bond.
“There’s plenty more characters in that universe to play and explore.”
At present, Henry Golding is co-starring with Nicole Kidman in the second installment of the popular drama series on the streamer, titled “Nine Perfect Strangers”. He’s set to return to the streaming platform and showcase his aptitude for action again in the much-anticipated sequel to the comic book movie, named “The Old Guard 2”.
Under the direction of Victoria Mahoney and with Greg Rucka penning the script, the sequel to The Old Guard, titled The Old Guard 2, brings back Charlize Theron as Andy/Andromache of Scythia, alongside KiKi Layne as Nile Freeman. Also returning are Marwan Kenzari as Joe/Yusuf Al-Kaysani, Luca Marinelli as Nicky/Nicolò di Genoa, Matthias Schoenaerts as Booker/Sebastian Le Livre, Vân Veronica Ngô as Quỳnh, and Chiwetel Ejiofor as James Copley.
