The Gathering. They are planning a four-part comic miniseries titled Magic: The Gathering: Untold Stories – Elspeth. Here is the official synopsis for this series:

In my perspective, I stand here as a fervent admirer of Elspeth’s indomitable spirit. Though she has met her end, her tale remains far from complete. It is said that the sun god Heliod, feeling a pang of envy towards his champion, cast her into the underworld. There, she is condemned to revisit her darkest moments for all eternity. However, Elspeth does not yield to despair; instead, she rises from each confrontation more heroic than before. And for a hero as remarkable as Elspeth, death is merely another hurdle to conquer.

In a groundbreaking move, the initial collaboration between Magic: The Gathering and Dark Horse Comics will delve into the story of Elspeth after her prophesied demise. While it’s well-known that death doesn’t keep Heliod’s champion down, the world of Magic: The Gathering has yet to reveal Elspeth’s journey in the afterlife. However, this is about to change as Dark Horse Comics plans to uncover more of these unexplored events in the upcoming months and perhaps even years.

In the case of “Magic: The Gathering – Untold Stories: Elspeth,” the comic is being brought to life through the efforts of writer Dan Watters and artist Owen Gieni. Additionally, creators like Hilary Jenkins (colorist) and Clayton Cowles (letterer) are also part of this exciting project.

In a recent statement, Gieni expressed his immense pride in bringing these exceptional characters and lore to life. He also praised Dan’s scripts as truly exceptional, genius work. His only initial request was to include some of the epic Theros gods and monsters to depict, and Dan certainly delivered, going above and beyond!
