Gabito Ballesteros is led by love in new album ‘Ya No Se Llevan Serenatas’

The Mexican balladeer Gabito Ballesteros has been a lifelong devotee of romance. His latest album, titled “Ya No Se Llevan Serenatas,” or “Serenades Are No Longer Performed,” evokes tender emotions in its listeners.

On Thursday, the album was launched, paying homage to love in today’s digital world filled with smartphones and social media. Using contemporary examples, like sending private messages on Instagram or visiting Disneyland, he creatively reinterprets the classic serenade – a song traditionally sung from beneath a lover’s window. This is deep, heartfelt romance that regional Mexican artists like Joan Sebastian, Vicente Fernandez, and Juan Gabriel have perfected over decades.

In his statement to The Times, Ballesteros expressed that he enjoys serenading women with songs, giving them roses as a token of affection, expressing romance, and he wishes to communicate this romantic sentiment to his audience.

Scattered throughout the 21 tracks are a group of renowned Mexican artists who have made their mark at home, such as my long-time partner Natanael Cano, Tito Doble P, Christian Nodal, Neton Vega, Carín León, Oscar Maydon, and Luis R Conriquez.

Colombian reggaeton superstar J Balvin is also featured in the Latin-EDM fusion track, “La Troka.”

Before its launch, the up-and-coming artist gave fans a sneak peek of his second album on Instagram by sharing a video of him driving a vintage Ford Mustang loaded with dozens of red roses. Upon stopping, Ballesteros retrieves his guitar from the trunk just as “Regalo de Dios,” his duet with Carín León, starts playing in the backdrop – hinting that Ballesteros is all set to express his feelings deeply to whoever gets to listen.

Among the select songs released prior to the album, the tune in question is included, along with evocative pre-releases such as “Cleopatra,” a song that likens a woman’s beauty to the legendary Egyptian queen, and “Perdido,” a track that seeks solace from the pain of lost true love by turning to vices.

Among the songs listed, you’ll find “7 Diás,” a hit single by Tito Double P that has been causing quite a stir due to its emotional content. Interestingly, Ballesteros has also recorded an intimate, acoustic version of this tear-jerking tune on YouTube for your viewing pleasure.

Ballesteros stated, “This album holds significant value as it presents a unique narrative distinct from my previous work. It offers listeners a deeper insight into my emotions, particularly my loves and heartaches.

Originally from Sonora, Mexico, Ballesteros initially garnered attention in 2020 through his hit conjunto song “El Rompecabezas.” After completing his industrial engineering degree in 2023, he teamed up with long-time friend Natanael Cano and Peso Pluma on their chart-topping debut “AMG,” which entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 92, making it their first appearance on this chart. Later in the same year, Ballesteros was also featured on the chart with the massive hit “Lady Gaga” alongside Peso Pluma and Junior H, a song that stayed on the Billboard Hot 100 for 20 weeks and peaked at No. 35.

Approximately one year following the successful release of his debut album “The GB,” which ranked at No. 65 on the Billboard 200, Ballesteros has now unveiled his latest single titled “Ya No Se Llevan Serenatas.” This 25-year-old artist, who is signed to Natanael Cano’s label Los CT and Double P Management of Peso Pluma, has rapidly emerged as a key player in the burgeoning corridos tumbados genre, boasting over 50 million monthly Spotify listeners.

Ballesteros shared, “If you’re in the throes of love, I’d be delighted if you dedicate a song from this album to your beloved. If you’re navigating a breakup, immerse yourself in the music for healing – everything here revolves around love.
