Channel Nine Star Quits After Losing Major Role to Danika Mason
A popular Channel Nine star has sensationally quit following a major shake up at the network.
On a surprising note, weekend sports commentator Roz Kelly, known for her work during the 2012 London Olympics and the anticipated 2024 Paris Olympics, has tendered her resignation, a mere two months following the decision to pass over her for the position of Today’s new sports anchor.
Instead, the position went to Nine rugby league sideline reporter Danika Mason.
It’s thought that Danika secured the prestigious position following the endorsement of Peter V’landys, the chairman of the Australian Rugby League Commission, who supported her for the opportunity in the media.
At this point, it’s uncertain if Roz has another job scheduled, but sources connected to her suggest that she might be considering a transition to South Africa. This possibility has been reported by news.com.au.

Living in Cape Town for a span of five years, Roz – partnered with retired South African cricketer Morne Morkel and mother of his two kids – returned to Sydney once Morne decided to step away from the sport.
Daily Mail Australia has reached out to Nine for comment.
The position at The Today show has become available following the termination of Australian sports host Alex Cullen due to him receiving a $50,000 present from Block tycoon Adrian Portelli.
The television host, aged 44, received an astonishing amount following his usage of Portelli’s self-titled moniker ‘McLaren Man’ during the broadcast last week – causing quite a stir in the media world.
Today, during a live broadcast in January, Karl Stefanovic revealed that Cullen had parted ways with the network after the incident involving Portelli.
It’s important to note that for the last seven days, we haven’t had Alex Cullen appearing on our show with us, as Stefanovic informed the audience somberly.
It’s been widely reported about the situation related to this matter. All I can share is that last night, Alex and Channel 9 reached an agreement where Alex will part ways with the network.
For the past five years, Alex has been an integral member of our ‘Today’ family. He’s known for his constant warmth, contagious smile, and infectious laughter. It goes without saying that we will greatly miss him when he leaves, a fact that is undoubtedly true.

Stefanovic expressed that ‘Alex is an outstanding individual, he’s genuine through and through, and he’s been a wonderful friend to everyone here for quite some time now. We wish Alex, his wife Bonnie, and their lovely children all the happiness and success in their future endeavors.’
As an over-the-moon admirer, I’d like to share some exciting news: I, Alex Cullen, have myself confirmed that after discussing a thorough evaluation of a recent occurrence, I shall be parting ways with the fantastic Nine network. Can’t wait to see what the future holds!
The controversy began when Portelli, aged 35, grew weary of his frequent nickname “Mr Lambo” and decided to give money as an incentive to the first person who would use his new alias “McLaren Man” during live broadcasts. This was fulfilled by Cullen on the Today show approximately a week ago.
Later, the business owner from The Block seemed to have made an Instagram post showing a transaction of $50,000 that looked like a bank transfer to the host.
As a conscientious advocate for ethical journalism, I firmly believe that accepting cash, gifts, or benefits with the intent to compromise one’s independence, and misusing a journalistic position for personal gain, are clear violations of the journalism ethics code as outlined by the Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance. These actions undermine the trust and integrity that form the bedrock of our profession.
Due to a reckless action, Cullen was temporarily removed from his role at Nine, as the network looked into the matter of an unusual payment. Meanwhile, Portelli chose to give the money to charity instead.
