“Strangely compelling” returning period drama drops first trailer – and fans don’t have long to wait
Apple TV+’s trailer for “The Buccaneers” season 2 showcases Nan grappling with the fallout from a challenging choice she’s made.
Slated for release on June 18th, this period drama with a contemporary edge continues to surprise us with unexpected twists, heartwarming romances, and the undeniable bond between sisters, which is arguably its greatest strength.
In the scene, we find ourselves following Nan St George, played by Kristine Frøseth, as she agrees to marry Theo, Duke of Tintagel, portrayed by Guy Remmers. This decision is made in a bid to aid her potential love interest, Guy (Matthew Broome), in rescuing her sister Jinny from an oppressive marriage.

Nan firmly maintains that she and Theo are content, and that she is prepared to assume the role of Duchess. She feels compelled to tread carefully due to Theo’s mother, who is none other than the Dowager Duchess, played by Amelia Bullmore.
A series of scenes shows that Nan and Guy have been exchanging letters, which on the surface appear to be Nan watching over Jinny. When Guy proposes that they begin a new life together at a sunny destination, it appears Nan faces another challenging decision.
In the midst of Nan being shared between Theo and Guy, with her steadfast duty to safeguard Jinny against the tyranny of Lord Seadown (Barney Fishwick) not wavering, I too find myself standing at a similar juncture with my own friends.
Amidst Nan being split between Theo and Guy while tirelessly shielding Jinny from the clutches of Lord Seadown (Barney Fishwick), it’s clear that my friends and I are all at a pivotal point in our lives.
Both sentences convey the idea that the characters and the speaker are facing challenges or decisions, but the second sentence might be slightly easier to understand for some readers due to its simpler structure.
In my gaming world, after the turbulent season one adventures with Conchita, it’s now smoother sailing in her married life. On the other hand, it’s me, Lizzy, preparing for the big walk down the aisle.
In the scene featuring Lizzy’s youthful, free-spirited sibling Mabel (Josie Totah), she and her partner Honoria (Mia Threapleton) seem to openly display their romantic involvement by sharing a heartfelt kiss in front of friends, thereby making their relationship known.
Without a doubt, the most astonishing scene in the trailer comes when an ominous character unexpectedly appears, posing potential danger for the St Georges.
In this new series, Leighton Meester portrays a fresh American in England who requests an introduction from Patti (Christina Hendricks), Nan’s mom. Given that we learned last season that Nan isn’t biologically related to Patti, it’s plausible that Meester’s character could be Nan’s birth mother; however, an official confirmation is still pending.
According to an incomplete novel of the same title penned by Edith Wharton, The Buccaneers was developed by Katherine Jakeways. On Rotten Tomatoes, this adaptation has primarily garnered favorable feedback and boasts a critic’s rating of 76%.
Audience members have been extolling its virtues on IMDb as well, with someone describing “The Buccaneers” as “oddly captivating” and sharing their ambivalent affection for the “hard-to-resist” show.
The second season of “The Buccaneers” kicks off on June 18th, airing a single episode on Apple TV+. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can catch up with season 1, which is currently streaming on the same platform.
