BBC’s hit Irish show with 100% perfect rating has confirmed some exciting returning season news
The highly acclaimed Irish comedy series, “The Young Offenders,” produced by the BBC, has been given the green light for a new season, making its fifth in total.
The TV show, modeled after the 2016 movie with a similar title, chronicles the thrilling and mischievous escapades of Conor MacSweeney (Alex Murphy) and Jock O’Keefe (Chris Walley), as they create chaos in the urban setting of Cork.
After completing a feature film, four successful seasons, and two holiday specials, Peter Foott’s coming-of-age sitcom has been given the green light by the BBC for a fifth season, with the commission of an additional six episodes by the network.

In the next episode, I’m thrilled to see my beloved scoundrels, Conor and Jock, rejoining forces after their individual imprisonments. Expect a whirlwind of mischief and chaos as they team up once more! The tagline hints that there’s practically no challenge these two can’t tackle, but whether they’ll ultimately succeed is another story altogether.
Alongside Murphy and Walley coming back as our unfortunate main characters, Hilary Rose, Dominic MacHale, and Shane Casey will once again take on their roles of Mairéad, Tony Healy (who used to be a villain), and Billy Murphy (a character known for his unpredictability).
Foott stated, “Season five welcomes back all the beloved characters viewers have come to know since the series began. This time around, we’ve got hilarious and heartfelt tales prepared that will find Conor and Jock in more mischief than ever!
The series creator expressed their anticipation that viewers will be just as enthusiastic as they are about reuniting the whole cast, promising even more humor, suspense, and unforgettable moments on your TV sets. This individual was also the writer and director of the 2016 movie.
Jon Petrie, BBC’s Comedy Director, expressed his excitement about rejoining Conor and Jock in Cork for another round of exuberantly ill-conceived escapades. The fifth series is bursting with the raw spirit, boisterous appeal, and incisive humor that have made The Young Offenders a beloved favorite among fans.
The announcement is certain to bring joy to both fans and critics, as the initial movie garnered a flawless 100% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 23 reviews at its premiere, with many praising its emotional depth amid the antics of its primary pair.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’d put it this way: “I found myself utterly immersed in an exhilarating journey that never let me down. Little White Lies called it an incredibly enjoyable experience, while Empire Magazine described it as raucously funny and skillfully performed.
The Young Offenders airs on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
