Oh dear Sassanachs worldwide, we find ourselves once again in a prolonged dry spell, known as Droughtlander, which started with the airing of Outlander Season 7 back in early 2025. Since then, we’ve been left guessing about what twists and turns await us in Outlander Season 8, and bracing ourselves for the emotional farewell of Sam Heughan and Caitríona Balfe as Jamie and Claire Fraser. Though the final season of this time-traveling phenomenon hasn’t arrived yet, we’re edging closer to the spinoff, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, which its creators assure us will offer thrilling escapades and more excitement. I can hardly wait for it to hit our screens!

What Can Fans Expect From Outlander: Blood Of My Blood?

In early 2023, it was revealed that Outlander Season 8 would be the last of the Fraser adventures, but simultaneously, the initial go-ahead for the first official spinoff was granted. The upcoming series, titled Outlander: Blood of My Blood, has stirred considerable excitement due to its unique narrative. It will delve into the romantic relationships of Claire and Jamie’s parents, spanning two distinct epochs – World War I and the 1700s. This fascinating tale is set to introduce us to our beloved heroine and hero.

Though we already know quite a bit about the upcoming prequel, executive producer Maril Davis shared exciting updates with Entertainment Weekly that has certainly fueled fan excitement. And indeed, her words have effectively ignited anticipation among fans.

We will portray, not just one, but two captivating love tales that unfold concurrently, providing a rich tapestry of interwoven stories leading us to Jamie and Claire. Additionally, we’ll delve into the intricate family dynamics of three distinct clans and embark on an exhilarating journey filled with adventure.

What I could really use is a thrilling, exciting adventure right now, and that’s exactly what you can expect from the upcoming show premiering on August 8th. Ronald D. Moore, the executive producer of the main series, had mentioned earlier that many fans tend to favor more background information and more of Scotland. In line with this preference, the upcoming series BOMB will indeed deliver, taking us back to Castle Leoch, home of Clan MacKenzie, and allowing us to witness younger versions of some early-season Outlander characters, including a young Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser. Additionally, we’ll have the opportunity to dive deeper into clan drama. As BOMB‘s creator Matthew B. Roberts explained, things might not always be peaceful at the MacKenzie home.

In our exploration of Blood of My Blood, we aimed to delve into not just familial relationships, but also the complexities of the clan structure. We wanted to understand how the undercurrents of intrigue and political manipulation shaped the world that molded Jamie Fraser into the man he became.

We can anticipate not only underhanded political maneuvers, but also subtle references to the characters of Claire and Jamie, mirroring the traits of their parents (Ellen MacKenzie for Jamie, Julia Moriston for Claire; Brian Fraser and Henry Beauchamp being their respective fathers). In the series Outlander, we subtly incorporated some references throughout the season. These were small details like ‘Jamie learned this from Ellen and later from Brian’, or ‘Claire learned this from Julia and then from Henry’. These subtle nods would remind the fans of where Jamie or Claire had previously encountered similar information in the storyline.
