How to Train Your Dragon’s “stunning” remake confirmed to be longer than the original movie
The runtime for the live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon has been confirmed.
The movie is scheduled for release on June 9th, and it tells the story of a young Viking named Hiccup (played by Mason Thames). Instead of adhering to centuries-old customs, Hiccup chooses friendship over enmity with a dragon, eventually rallying his fellow villagers to combat an imminent ancient menace.
Contrary to the 2010 version, the upcoming movie promises more excitement since it’s been confirmed that it will run for 25 minutes longer than its previous installment.

In contrast, the newly released “How to Train Your Dragon” runs for approximately 125 minutes, as opposed to the original movie which was 100 minutes long, according to the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC).
Initial reviews for this remake are singing praises, with critics calling it “breathtaking” and “spot-on,” while also labeling it as “the must-watch family movie of the season.
The upcoming movie is set to be helmed by Dean DeBlois, who previously collaborated on the first installment as co-director. The ensemble includes Gerard Butler, Nick Frost, Nico Parker, Julian Dennison, Bronwyn James, and Gabriel Howell.
2010’s cherished movie didn’t have a sequel until 2014 with the release of How to Train Your Dragon 2, followed by another sequel titled How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World in 2019.
Initially, the release of this new movie stirred up debate, as numerous fans criticized the idea of a live-action version. This aspect left DeBlois puzzled, as he couldn’t comprehend it.
He shared with The AU Review: “It’s intriguing for me, as I’ve consistently taken a stance against merely following the trend of adapting those movies.
I have a strong fondness for animation, particularly the films produced by studios. However, I don’t support the idea of remaking movies into a different format without a clear and meaningful reason behind it.
When Universal mentioned turning this project into a live-action film, it sparked a memory in me about our original goal for the first movie, which Chris Sanders and I had always aspired towards – embracing a live-action feel.
How To Train Your Dragon is released in cinemas on 9 June.
