VP, NAVI Junior decline TI EEU invites, ‘region-hop’ to WEU for Dota 2 qualifiers
The pair will instead play through Dota’s TI open qualifiers in Western Europe.
This week, Virtus.pro and NAVI Junior decided to turn down invitations for the closed qualifiers of Dota 2’s TI 2025 in Germany.
It was initially believed that the conflict with the Esports World Cup qualifiers caused the teams’ decision; however, it’s now clear they prefer to advance through Western Europe’s open qualifiers instead if it increases their chances of qualifying for TI 2025, as WEU offers two slots to the top event this year.
Top Dota EEU teams flip to WEU to improve TI qualifiers chances
Over a span of several days, two participating teams from the EEU region, VP and NAVI Junior, have pulled out of the qualifier as per organizer PGL. As of now, it’s unclear who will step in to replace these teams, but there’s a strong possibility that PGL will assign their spots to the top-ranked EEU teams waiting in line.
In a blog post, Natus Vincere confirmed receiving their invitation when it was initially announced on May 14. However, neither they nor Virtus.pro will participate in the closed qualifier event.
Despite their persistence not wavering, TI 2025 will remain a focus for both parties. NAVI Junior has been designated as a notable registered participant for the Western Europe open qualifiers starting May 31, as stated on Liquipedia and the Esportal platform handling the competition. It is anticipated that VP will follow suit in the upcoming days.
At the same period, the EWC qualifiers and the WEU closed qualifier for The International (TI) are happening simultaneously. However, the main cause is straightforward: The WEU closed qualifier offers an additional spot for TI, and since both NAVI Junior and VP can participate in both qualifiers, they have a higher likelihood of making it to TI, even if they have to fight their way through the open bracket.
There’s been quite a debate about whether EEU should receive an additional spot in the tournament, or if it’s valid for a team with predominantly EEU players to compete in WEU. The rulebook for the Dota 2 Qualifiers for The International 2025 clearly defines the regions each country falls under.
Despite not meeting the criteria for the WEU open qualifier, both NAVI Junior and VP are anticipated to participate with the goal of advancing to the closed qualifier. There, they will face off against teams such as Nigma Galaxy, MOUZ, OG, and AVULUS.
Here’s another option:
Though neither NAVI Junior nor VP have fulfilled the prerequisites for the WEU open qualifier, it is believed that they will compete in the hopes of progressing to the closed qualifier. In this stage, they will confront teams like Nigma Galaxy, MOUZ, OG, and AVULUS.
Lastly:
Though neither NAVI Junior nor VP have qualified for the WEU open qualifier according to the rules, it is expected that they will participate in hopes of advancing to the closed qualifier, where they’ll encounter teams such as Nigma Galaxy, MOUZ, OG, and AVULUS.
Esports.gg contacted organizer PGL for an explanation regarding their rulebook, but there was no response before the article was released.
