Heavy metal icon and Robbie Williams team up for music magic
Robbie Williams possessed both charm and vocal prowess that allowed him to transcend the realm of boy bands and establish himself as a fixture in pop culture consistently. While he may be more recognized in the UK compared to the United States, his music has left an indelible mark on charts in both regions, giving him a significant international presence.
Essentially, Williams possesses the expertise and resources – both wealth and reputation – to carry out his desires freely. Should he choose to release a country album, his record label would likely accommodate him, even though we hope such an event does not occur.
Williams’ upcoming album is set for release in the fall, and it’s titled “Brit“, a fitting name given his success with Take That during the peak of Britpop. However, don’t anticipate the entire album to have a 1995 sound. Instead, there will be depth and texture to it.
Robbie Williams and Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi make for a surprisingly good pair
In this new release, “Rocket”, Williams requested Tony Iommi, the legendary Black Sabbath guitarist, to contribute to at least one track. On this single, Iommi is more than just a guest; he’s the driving force behind the song. Unlike some collaborations where the guitarist has only one solo and fades into the background, “Rocket” sounds as much like an Iommi composition as it does a Williams one.
This track isn’t strictly metal nor overly pop-like, but what stands out is the talent of the musicians. It might not immediately lodge itself in your memory, yet there may be multiple remixes to make it more danceable. The fusion of Williams and Iommi creates an unexpected brilliance.
The tune isn’t excessively prolonged either; its pace and spirit lean more towards punk music rather than heavy metal. In essence, it resembles what Billy Idol from the late ’80s might have performed if he sang in a manner similar to an American Idol contestant.
In other words, it’s important to note that comparing Robbie Williams to Ozzy Osbourne isn’t intended as an insult, given Ozzy’s exceptional vocal abilities. However, on the song “Rocket,” Williams doesn’t need to emulate Ozzy. Instead, he should just be himself and let Tony Iommi shine. And that’s exactly what occurs in this track.
