Peter Andre Faces Backlash for ‘Modern Blackface’ in Jafaican, Supported by Kids at Screening

On Tuesday, Peter Andre was accompanied by his kids, Princess and Junior, at a unique viewing of the movie Jafaican in London.

The performer faces allegations of imitating “modern blackface” by sporting dreadlocks and assuming a Jamaican dialect in portraying the character Gary Buckle, a con artist disguised as a Jamaican criminal.

In order to carry out a fraud across London and Jamaica, requiring approximately AUD $72,321 to cover his grandmother’s expenses, Gary (often referred to as Gazza) has just 21 days to immerse himself in Jamaican culture thoroughly.

At the exclusive VIP preview at Genesis Cinema, the teenagers Junior (age 19) and Princess (age 17) strolled alongside Peter, striking poses as they took pictures on the red carpet.

He wore a beige linen blazer that gave him an air of intelligence, complementing it with a set of trousers in the same color and a white shirt.

Princess looked stylish in a black jumpsuit wit knee boots and a grey leather bomber jacket.

In the meantime, he chose to wear a double denim outfit, pairing a light blue jacket with some worn-out jeans.

Peter divides the company of his older kids, Junior and Princess, with his former spouse Katie Price. Alongside this, he shares custody of Amelia (age 11), Theo (age 9), and their youngest, Arabella (who is 13 months old) with his current wife Dr Emily MacDonagh.

During the promotional tour for his movie, British-Nigerian screenwriter and director Fredi Nwaka emphasized the importance of humor in our current global situation, yet he chose not to engage with the ongoing debate and criticism directly.

In this day and age, it seems as though people have lost the knack for laughter, living in a world that can be quite somber, as expressed to Adelaide Now.

He went on to say, “We seem to have lost the knack of smiling sincerely and letting go of negativity, at least temporarily, despite the circumstances.

‘Comedy allows us to escape from our everyday life. Laughter – that’s the most infectious thing.’

As the movie is scheduled for release towards the end of the year, its preview displayed Peter sporting dreadlocks and adopting a Jamaican dialect, an aspect that some viewers found deeply disrespectful.

The trailer made fans question: ‘Did I wake up in 1998?!’

2025 found Peter Andre portraying the main character in a movie titled JAFAICAN, where he’s feigning a Jamaican persona and sporting a dreadlock wig. I must admit, this was an unexpected surprise for me in the year we find ourselves in.

In 2025, there’s a film release featuring Peter Andre wearing a dreadlock wig and portraying a character as Jamaican. One person commented, “Is this the kind of representation we’re still going for in 2025?

Why would YouTube suggest a movie trailer featuring Peter Andre, where the plot involves a character pretending to be a phony Jamaican? It feels like I’ve traveled back to 1998!

One observer, intrigued by Peter’s removal of a tweet, questioned if the project ‘Jafaican’ might be canceled as a result.

Despite some initial negative feedback, other social media users’ enthusiasm preceding the movie’s premiere led to a more mixed response for the trailer.

Peter shared the official trailer for the movie “JAFAICAN” on his Instagram during the weekend, stating: “Here it is – the OFFICIAL trailer for JAFAICAN is now live! Get ready for its cinema release soon.

He announced that the first public screening of the movie will take place at the Gold Coast Film Festival on May 9, hinting that details about a UK premiere are forthcoming.

One excited fan penned: ‘Peter that looks amazing can’t wait to see this brilliant’.

Another wrote: ‘Oh yes!!!! looking forward to this @peterandre can’t wait’.

‘I wish I could have watched this being filmed’ someone else said.
