Sarah Michelle Gellar reveals OG Buffy star’s kids auditioned for comeback series

Sarah Michelle Gellar, who plays Buffy in the series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, has disclosed that some kids from her fellow cast members have tried out for the remade version of the show.

Back in February, I got thrilled to hear the news that Hulu is breathing new life into the legendary supernatural show. Guess who’s coming back? None other than me, Sarah Michelle Gellar, reprising my role as Buffy Summers alongside a fresh crop of vampire slayers!

Last week, the show made progress by hiring Ryan Kiera Armstrong to play a shy teenager attending high school. This character will work alongside Buffy, forming an alliance. Together, they aim to thwart evil forces that threaten the world.

Just buzzing with excitement after the big announcement! You won’t believe it, but I recently caught up with my dear Buffy co-star, Alyson Hannigan. We shared a laugh over our memories and even discussed the casting process for the upcoming sequel series. As it turns out, we both have connections who had auditioned for roles in this exciting new project! We spilled the beans to US Weekly about the whole thing. Can’t wait to see what happens next!

According to Gellar, who starred in all 144 episodes of Buffy, she knows several individuals from the show, and some of their kids have auditioned for the revamped series.

Hannigan replied, with a hint of concern, “I hope it wasn’t one of my children!” She also mentioned that she knew someone who auditioned for a part in the new series.

As an eager enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the upcoming, still unnamed reboot doesn’t just have a release date yet, but it does boast a powerhouse creative team. The pilot episode will be penned by none other than the brilliant duo Nora and Lilla Zuckerman. Additionally, the esteemed Academy Award-winning filmmaker Chloé Zhao will be directing this project, making it an even more exciting venture to look forward to!

Previously, Gellar, now serving as an executive producer, discussed the initial stages of the reboot. She mentioned that she met Zhao through producer Gail Berman.

She was surprised to find out that Chloé recognized her, she said later. As usual, she shared with Gail my doubts about the possibility of the show returning. However, this time there seemed to be a new tone in Gail’s words that I hadn’t heard before. We’d always agreed on this point, but our conversation struck me differently this time.

Ultimately, I consented to join (primarily because I wanted to see Chloé), and what began as a brief twenty-minute coffee catch-up soon morphed into a four-hour escapade. We shared laughter, tears, but mainly engaged in heartfelt conversations about the deep connection we share for this show.

On a particular occasion, a thought struck us… Over the years, I’ve taken into account the opinions of the fans, sensing your longing to re-explore the universe of Buffy. However, this was not feasible unless I was confident we could execute it perfectly.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer can be streamed in full on Disney+ and ITVX.

The inaugural print magazine from Digital Spy, titled “British Comedy Legends,” is available for purchase! You can grab a copy at your local newsagent or online for only £3.99.
