Grey’s Anatomy showrunner addresses “sucker-punch” finale amid fan fears major character is dead

Showrunner Meg Marinis from ‘Grey’s Anatomy‘ has spoken up about the controversial finale, reassuring fans who were worried that a significant character might have perished following the unexpected twist.

A week ago in the U.S., the climactic episode of season 21 unfolded with a catastrophic blast ripping through Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, trapping several surgical teams and physicians within the affected areas.

Moments prior to the blast, following Piper Perabo’s character, Jenna, releasing gas into the hospital, Link was spotted with a grinder in his hand, preparing to work on a patient’s leg in the operating theater.

In an interview with Deadline, Marinis candidly discussed the suspenseful ending, admitting that the writers intentionally created a misleading impression for viewers about the fate of Link and Jo’s narrative.

When asked by the publication if the show would potentially leave two unborn girls without a father, Marinis replied: “Indeed, that story could make for an excellent finale because it creates this intriguing scenario where they get married and then we see them living a blissful life, seemingly unaware of what’s unfolding around them.

As a passionate fan, I can’t help but share this intriguing detail: Marinis deliberately left the audience guessing about Link’s destiny, aiming to deliver an unexpected blow, which is something we excel at here.

However, it’s not what anyone desires – for those two unborn girls to become fatherless. Instead, we can all prepare to find out if Link was present at the section of the hospital that experienced an explosion, as we wait to see what unfolds.

After the thrilling episode, viewers flocked to Grey’s Anatomy’s official Instagram account to express their opinions, with several wondering if Link managed to survive the blast.

One viewer expressed: “Oh my goodness, if [he] leaves, I’ll stop watching Grey’s Anatomy altogether. They make each other so happy, and he’s her forever.

One person expressed: “Let’s not turn Jo into a grieving mother during pregnancy… she’s already been through too much,” and another fan penned: “I just can’t bear it. He had better survive. Jo truly deserves happiness, as does Link.
