Jennifer Lawrence is being widely recognized as a potential Oscar winner following the acclaim of her captivating portrayal in Lynne Ramsay’s film “Die, My Love.

In this adaptation, the actress, aged 34, shares the screen with Robert Pattinson, portraying a mother dealing with postpartum depression and psychosis. The story, based on Ariana Harwicz’s 2017 novel, is unique as it combines elements of both horror and humor.

In the intense film, the actress playing Grace has been nominated for the prestigious Oscar four times, yet she has only won one – the Best Actress award in 2013 for her role in Silver Linings Playbook.

12 years since her initial Academy Award-winning performance, there’s speculation that Jennifer might be in line for another one, based on recent critic acclaim following the premiere of her latest film at the Cannes Film Festival on May 17th.

Moreover, both Robert (aged 39) and the rest of the supporting cast, such as Sissy Spacek (at 75 years old), have received praise for their performances. However, it is Jennifer’s exceptional portrayal of a mentally fragile wife and mother that truly shines among them all.

Radhika Seth from Vogue stated: ‘Critics at Cannes have already identified her as a potential winner for the 2026 Oscars. Given a compelling return-to-form storyline (it’s been more than a decade since her last Academy Award victory and nomination), she could very well win—even considering its unconventional nature, her performance is definitely Oscar-worthy.’

While Vanity Fair’s Richard Lawson didn’t outright love the movie, he did admire Lawrence’s acting, writing: “It’s Lawrence’s captivating performance that holds our interest during the movie’s somewhat sluggish middle and makes it so engaging. She skillfully mixes witty humor with a sense of inner turmoil and anger, creating an electrifying force throughout the film.

In another article for the publication, David Canfield emphasized that Jennifer Lawrence’s performance in “Die, My Love” is so captivating it warrants immediate consideration for an Oscar.

Later on, he notes: ‘Not only does Pattinson and Sissy Spacek deliver powerful performances, but Lawrence seemingly surpasses her previous work. This is a remarkable reentry into the world of cinema for the Academy Award winner, serving as a testament to her capabilities when working with a daring, visionary director.’

This new role is likely her most impactful dramatic performance since the 2017 film ‘Mother!’, directed by Darren Aronofsky, which was both critically acclaimed and divisive. It has potential to earn her an Oscar nomination for the first time in ten years, since her work in David O. Russell’s 2015 movie ‘Joy’.

Damon Wise from Deadline remarks about Jennifer Lawrence’s aspirations for the awards season: ‘Given her exceptional talent, America is fully aware of what Jennifer Lawrence is capable of, and this may lead to her receiving a fifth Oscar nomination if she finds herself in the right hands during the selection process.’

IndieWire commented: ‘Lawrence delivers an extraordinary, unrestrained portrayal of a woman spiraling out of control, which is the kind of role that often wins Best Actress prizes at film festivals.’

Jennifer openly discussed her challenges during a particularly isolating phase following the arrival of her firstborn child.

34-year-old actress, freshly a mother of two with partner Cooke Maroney, takes on the role of a troubled mother dealing with psychosis in her latest movie titled “Die, My Love”.

At a press event for the movie, Jennifer openly discussed her connection to her character’s hardships, as she had experienced similar feelings during her solitary journey through early motherhood.

In 2022, the actress from The Hunger Games welcomed her firstborn son, named Cy, and revealed that shortly after giving birth, she was offered a role in the movie.

She mentioned that, as her child’s mom, it was challenging to distinguish between the actions she wanted to take versus the actions her child might take.

Upon initially reading that book, it left me feeling incredibly sad and intensely moved. As Lynne (Ramsay) put it, the experience felt like a hauntingly surreal dream.

I’ve recently finished my initial foray into reading (the book), and the experience reminds me of nothing quite as unique as postpartum. It can be incredibly lonely, a fact that becomes intriguing when Lynn Ramsay transplants a new couple to Montana in her work.

She lacks a social circle or close-knit group. She doesn’t have her kindred spirits. However, the reality is that intense anxiety and profound depression are isolating conditions, regardless of location. It can make you feel like an outsider. And it touched me deeply. I have been longing to collaborate with Lynn Ramsey ever since I saw Rat Catcher.

In the movie, Jennifer plays Grace, a fresh mom whose psychological state worsens as her marriage falls apart, with Robert Pattinson cast as her spouse Jackson.

After becoming a mother, the star acknowledged that her outlook on her professional life has shifted dramatically. She went on to call motherhood both challenging and extraordinary.

She added: ‘Well, having children changes everything.

As a die-hard fanatic, this thing has completely transformed my existence. It’s both mercilessly challenging and indescribably amazing. This obsession doesn’t just influence the minutiae of my work life – when, where, and even if I’m working – but it permeates every aspect of my being.

Learning from this experience was enlightening as it showed me emotions I hadn’t realized I was capable of experiencing. Since my work heavily involves emotions, it has expanded my emotional world significantly. It’s as if I’ve developed an unexpected sensitivity, almost like a tender spot or blister.

Experience shows that children have significantly improved my life overall, and they’ve sparked a creative transformation within me. If acting is your passion, I wholeheartedly suggest considering parenthood.
