Jessica Simpson Slammed by Fans for Cringe-Worthy First Live TV Performance in 15 Years
Jessica Simpson, after performing on live TV for the first time in 15 years, has fallen prey to online bullies (or internet trolls).
Following her musical return at the American Idol season 23 finale on Sunday, her vocals faced harsh criticism from viewers on social media platforms.
Despite giving it her all, the actress, aged 44, faced harsh criticism when she sang her 2005 rendition of “These Boots Are Made for Walking” alongside a former contestant, Josh King.
‘Jessica Simpson was an absolute train wreck on American Idol tonight!!” one X user declared.
It was stated: ‘Currently, Jessica Simpson is battling and performing her most famous song ‘These Boots Were Made For Walking’ due to some health issues she’s facing.’
‘The epitome of cringe,’ a third marveled.
Others firmly believed that if she had auditioned for American Idol’s current panel of judges, which includes Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood, and Lionel Richie, she would not have been offered a ticket to Hollywood.
A critic stated, ” frankly, I can’t fathom why she’s regarded as a skilled vocalist.
Regardless of the strong criticism, numerous supporters stood by Simpson as they highlighted that they hadn’t noticed any major flaws in her singing, suggesting she is roughly comparable to popular pop singers such as Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Sabrina Carpenter, and others.
‘The person wrote on YouTube that she may not reach the level of stardom as Mariah Carey or Whitney Houston, but it’s unlikely that most of her critics could perform as well as she does.’
On March 21, Simpson released her EP Nashville Canyon Part 1.
15 years have passed since Jessica released her final album titled “Happy Christmas,” on the 22nd of November, 2010.
Apart from her current release, she has also put out several other albums such as Sweet Kisses (released in 1999), Irresistible (2001), In This Skin (2003), a Christmas album titled ReJoyce (2004), A Public Affair (2006) and Do You Know (2008).
Her return to music comes after her split from Eric Johnson.

For some time now, Eric and I have found ourselves living apart amidst a challenging phase in our marriage. Our top priority remains our children’s well-being, and we are dedicated to making decisions that serve their best interests. We are incredibly touched by the compassionate messages we’ve received, and ask for privacy at this difficult juncture as we navigate this family ordeal together,” she expressed to the media outlet.
Jessica hinted at their split for months – and Eric was spotted in November 2024 without his ring.
In a series of interviews held in my Nashville music room, I discovered my unique charm. This return is deeply personal, a form of self-forgiveness for enduring situations that were never mine to bear. She expressed this sentiment in the caption of her Instagram post alongside a picture of herself in a recording studio.
Eric and Jessica got married in the month of July, 2014, having dated for a period of four years prior. They first crossed paths in the year 2010, introduced by a common acquaintance.
Three kids were warmly received by them as a family: twelve-year-old Maxwell Drew, eleven-year-old Ace Knute, and five-year-old Birdie Mae.
