It appears that enthusiasts of the animated film, Lilo & Stitch, are set for a delight as initial reviews from critics are praising it as “Disney’s top-tier live-action adaptation yet.
At the Los Angeles premiere over the weekend, the movie about the heartwarming friendship between six-year-old Lilo (Maia Kealoha) and the unruly, koala-like alien Stitch (voiced by Chris Sanders) has touched the hearts of those fortunate enough to catch a glimpse.
Prior to its broad launch on May 23rd, the movie has been garnering extremely favorable responses. Daniel Baptista from The Movie Podcast even labeled it as the “most surprising” film of the year.

On Twitter, he expressed that #LiloAndStitch has been the most delightful surprise of the year and undeniably the top-notch Disney live-action adaptation so far.
Director Dean Fleischer Camp skillfully creates an exhilarating family journey, embodying the madness and allure of the original. This production is not only out-of-this-world funny but heartwarming as well, featuring a breakout performance by Maia Kealoha.
Wendy Lee Szany expressed similar sentiments, labeling the film as the finest live-action production from Disney thus far.
“#LiloandStitch is the best Disney live-action to date,” Szany wrote.
Watching Stitch in his real-life version on the cinema screen stirs up a massive wave of nostalgia. There were countless laughs and touching moments. The movie strikes familiar chords like the original one, but also offers fresh, exciting elements.
On Bluesky, critic Michael Lee characterized the movie as a “charming retelling that primarily preserves the essence of the original in a contemporary perspective.
Lilo and Nani’s bond seems incredibly touching. This connection remains genuine, authentic, and crucial to the heart of the narrative. Not to mention, Stitch adds a dose of uproarious disorder to the mix, as Lee pointed out.
I found it appealing as well that #LiloandStitch creatively updates Ohana’s storyline with fresh dialogues and gestures, enhancing their characters and embodying the essence of Hawaiian hospitality.
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but share the stellar cast of this beloved film. Besides Kealoha and Sanders, you’ll see Sydney Elizebeth Agudong gracefully portray Lilo’s older sister Nani. The humorous Zach Galifianakis lends his voice to Stitch’s inventor, Dr Jumba Jookiba. Billy Magnussen brings life to Agent Pleakley, the expert on Earth matters, and Courtney B Vance impresses as FBI agent Cobra Bubbles, among other talented actors.
The live-action version of Lilo & Stitch will hit theaters on May 23rd, while the original animated film can be streamed on Disney+.
