Initially, this Star Wars-themed area was intended to exist on a single day within the Star Wars timeline, falling between the sequel era’s The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker. Consequently, characters from both the Resistance and the First Order can be found patrolling Batuu, each maintaining their bases near Black Spire Outpost.

In recent times, Disney and Lucasfilm have expanded the timeline within which stories can take place, moving into the era of the New Republic. Characters such as Din Djarin, Grogu, Boba Fett, Fennec Shand, Ahsoka Tano, and even Luke Skywalker himself have been able to exist in certain parts of Galaxy’s Edge as a result. Starting from April 2025, Luke Skywalker has made appearances in these New Republic-era shows, coinciding with Disneyland’s late-night Star Wars events that took place between April and May.

Since Luke Skywalker was there, it presented an exciting and uncommon chance to inquire about his ongoing mission in Batuu, as well as other activities he was involved with during the New Republic period.

When queried if he had initiated construction on his Jedi academy depicted in “The Book of Boba Fett”, Luke Skywalker stated that he hadn’t started his endeavor for a New Jedi Order yet. This temple bore a resemblance to the main Jedi Temple on Coruscant but had one of the planet’s ancient tree spires rising majestically at its core. Luke’s comments about sensing a powerful energy on the planet are consistent with the fact that Jedi Temples were typically constructed near Force nexuses, which explains why such a temple was built in Batuu.

Similarly, Dok-Ondar’s establishment houses numerous Jedi artifacts, obtained years after the temple was left by the Jedi Order and recognized as such by the antiquities dealer. The Black Spire Outpost is also home to a clandestine group called The Gatherers, who are not Jedi but worship the Force. They use metal scraps and a hidden cache of kyber crystals to craft lightsabers. Interestingly, these ruins near Black Spire Outpost serve as a base for the Resistance, a fact that can be observed while waiting in line for the Rise of the Resistance ride at Galaxy’s Edge.

It was quite thrilling to essentially chat with Luke Skywalker and gain insights into his New Republic adventures at Galaxy’s Edge. What made this experience even more exciting was seeing how his replies were seamlessly integrated into the established lore of Galaxy’s Edge within the broader Star Wars universe. This definitely enhances Luke Skywalker as a fantastic new character in the Star Wars-themed land, and who knows, maybe we’ll uncover additional details about Luke Skywalker’s time on Batuu if it ever appears in future Star Wars projects.
