Mads Mikkelsen Joins Arctic Action Thriller Sirius From Oscar-Winning Editor
Actor X is now part of the star-studded lineup for the action-packed thriller “Sirius”. This highly anticipated film is being brought to us by the esteemed editor, Lee Smith, who has previously won an Academy Award.
As per reports, Smith is set to direct his first full-length film titled “Sirius” for the first time. The name of this production is derived from a genuine Danish special forces unit known as the Sirius Patrol. The screenplay was crafted by Tony Mosher, who has previously written action movies like Jason Statham’s 2016 film and Antonio Banderas’ 2017 heist movie “Security“.
Mads Mikkelsen‘s New Action Movie Is Based on Real Danish Special Forces Unit
The official summary hints that Sirius is an “exciting Arctic action-thriller drawn from the true exploits of the Sirius Patrol, a special Danish task force responsible for safeguarding Greenland’s vast, icy coastline spanning over 8,700 miles.
Smith is widely recognized for his editing collaborations with esteemed directors like Peter Weir (of The Truman Show fame), Sam Mendes (known for Spectre) and Matthew Vaughn (X-Men: First Class among others). He has been part of five movies directed by Christopher Nolan, and received an Oscar for Best Film Editing for his work on Dunkirk in 2017.
Madsen is primarily recognized for his portrayal of Dr. Hannibal Lecter in the television series “Hannibal”, and for assuming the part of Gellert Grindelwald, previously played by Johnny Depp, in “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore”. While specific details about his role in “Sirius” remain confidential, Madsen has made a notable mark playing antagonists in the James Bond series, Marvel movies, and the popular video game “Death Stranding”.

As of late, I’ve had the privilege of lending my voice to the character Kiros, the fearless leader of a vengeful pride of lions called The Outsiders. Excitingly, I’m gearing up to team up once more with the brilliant Bryan Fuller, creator of Hannibal, on our upcoming horror film Dust Bunny. This project boasts an impressive cast including the legendary Sigourney Weaver and David Dastmalchian from The Suicide Squad. Bryan’s movie centers around a brave young girl who enlists her neighbor’s help to capture and eliminate the monster lurking beneath her bed.
At the moment, Sirius is being offered by Neon International for global distribution during the Cannes Film Festival. Meanwhile, pre-production work is already in progress. Neon is enjoying a wave of success following its film’s victory as the second movie ever for them to receive the Best Picture award at the Oscars this year. Interestingly, Neon was also involved in producing the 2019 Best Picture winner, Parasite – an unprecedented achievement as it marked the first time a non-English language film won that prestigious honor.
As a devoted cinephile, I’m thrilled about Neon’s upcoming cinematic ventures beyond Sirius, particularly Mike Flanagan’s latest Stephen King adaptation titled “The Life of Chuck.” This intriguing production is slated for release on June 6th. In “The Life of Chuck,” the talented actors Tom Hiddleston and Jacob Tremblay portray distinct phases of an ‘ordinary man’ living an extraordinary life, showcasing different aspects throughout his unique existence.
Neon Has Won 11 Oscars Since its Inception in 2017
- The production company’s first-ever movie was Anne Hathaway’s science fiction comedy Colossal in 2017.
- Neon has since had international success with The Worst Person in the World, I, Tonya and Longlegs, among others.
- Its 2025 hit The Monkey, based on Stephen King’s story of a cursed toy monkey, made nearly $70 million against a modest $11 million budget.
In the upcoming body horror film, set to release on July 38, the production team is bringing together real-life partners Alison Brie and Dave Franco. These two will be portraying a couple who undergo terrifying bodily transformations after relocating to a secluded rural residence. This project serves as Michael Shanks’ debut as a director, having also penned the script for the movie.
In summer 2025, the film “Splitsville,” penned, helmed, and acted by Michael Angelo Covino, will conclude Neon’s lineup. Dakota Johnson and Adria Arjona will join Covino in this story about a man whose heartbreak leads him to explore the joys of an open marriage after his wife requests a divorce. “Splitsville” is set to release in theaters on August 22, but it will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 19th before that.
Sirius does not yet have a release window. Pre-production is underway now.
