Donnie Wahlberg’s Blue Bloods Spinoff Casts Ghostbusters Legend Ernie Hudson

Exciting news about a new spin-off of “Blue Bloods” has been announced, featuring original cast member Donnie Wahlberg who returns as Danny Reagan. Airing this fall and taking over the Friday 10 PM time slot that was once occupied by “Blue Bloods”, the show is called “Boston Blue”.

I’m thrilled to share that I recently learned about an exciting development in one of Wahlberg’s upcoming projects! It turns out that the Ghostbusters legend, Ernie Hudson, will join the cast as a new co-star. This news follows the addition of other talented actors. The storyline unfolds after Danny accepts a role with the Boston PD, working alongside Detective Lena Silver (Martin-Green), who serves as his partner. Lena hails from a distinguished law enforcement family, much like the Reagans in Blue Bloods.

In a forthcoming production, Hudson portrays Reverend Peters, a highly respected Baptist church pastor who is also the grandfather of Detective Lena Silver. He is additionally the father of Boston’s District Attorney, Mae Silver, as well as the grandfather of Superintendent Ashley Silver and patrol officer Isaac Silver. As of now, there’s no word on who will be chosen for those roles. The character of Reverend Peters is depicted as a tolerant, welcoming man who feels at ease in all traditions, ready to lead his church’s traditional Sunday Baptist service.

Ernie Hudson Lands His Next Big TV Series Role

Hudson, who has recently graced BET’s “The Family Business,” is making a comeback to television with his latest casting. This comes after his stint in the revival of NBC’s “Quantum Leap,” which concluded following two seasons last year. Hudson is perhaps most recognized for his iconic role as Winston Zeddemore in the Ghostbusters series, and he’ll reprise this role in the 2024 film “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.” Notably, Hudson will also lend his voice to Combat Carl in “Toy Story 5,” succeeding the late Carl Weathers in this role.

The series titled “Boston Blue” is being overseen by co-showrunners Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis, along with Jerry Bruckheimer, KristieAnne Reed, and Donnie Wahlberg. Additionally, Anthony Hemingway will be in charge of directing and executive producing the initial episode as well. The production of this show is being handled by CBS Studios in collaboration with Jerry Bruckheimer TV.

As a dedicated cinephile, I find myself utterly awestruck by the opportunity to collaborate with none other than Jerry Bruckheimer on our latest project. Sharing the stage with the illustrious Brandon team of writers and producers is nothing short of a privilege. On the Morning Magic podcast, I expressed my gratitude for this chance to uphold the legacy of Blue Bloods, a tradition that I hold dear. I am truly honored to be a part of this extraordinary endeavor.

He hinted at potential future projects, saying, “The show could center around Danny Reagan, but rest assured, the Reagans remain readily accessible, and Danny isn’t shy about using the phone, that much is certain.

Boston Blue will debut this fall on CBS.
