The Upcoming ‘Mario’ Sequel Could Be Titled ‘Super Mario World’

Summary

  • A deleted press release seemingly leaked the new Mario film’s title as Super Mario World
  • The sequel, from Universal, is slated for an April 3, 2026 release
  • The title aligns with the first film’s post-credit scene teasing Yoshi

The title for the upcoming Mario film may have just been leaked by Universal Pictures.

According to an initial report by The Verge, it was stated that the sequel would be called “Super Mario World,” as indicated in a press release from NBCUniversal. However, this press release has since been removed and revised, and the new version no longer mentions “Super Mario World,” “Shrek,” or “Minions.

The follow-up to Universal’s movie is slated for a release on April 3, 2026, although it doesn’t have an officially announced title yet. Interestingly, according to The Verge, the “Super Mario World” moniker seems fitting; the end credits of the initial film hinted at the arrival of Yoshi, who first appeared in the 1990 video game titled “Super Mario World”.

Stay tuned for more details.
