MobLand Just Made Me Hate This Character
In the latest installment of “MobLand”, episode 7 served as a critical juncture in the ongoing conflict between the Harrigans and the Stevensons. However, another significant narrative has become increasingly aggravating, peaking by the end of episode 7. The main focus of this episode was Harry’s desperate bid to save Brendan and Seraphina Harrigan from their captors, but there were also other significant events unfolding. One such event revolved around Jan Da Souza, played by Joann Froggatt, who defied Conrad for a second time, as she did in episode 6.
On this occasion, there might be significant consequences. Leaving the Harrigan estate, Jan went to meet her friend Alice, who secretly works as an informant for DS Fisk. Over time, Alice has been subtly empathizing with Jan’s issues, which has caused Jan to confide in her more. In episode 7, Conrad ordered his associate Paul to trail Jan into town when she met Alice. After eavesdropping on their conversation about “killers and gangsters”, Paul assumed that Jan was disclosing Harrigan secrets to Alice and confronted them afterwards.
Jan Trusting Alice Is Frustrating At This Point Of MobLand Season 1
We’ve Crossed The Point Of Suspending Disbelief
Initially, Jan and Alice’s interactions seemed rather uncomfortable as they quickly formed a friendship, but it was somewhat plausible for a while due to their shared circumstances and interests. A woman dissatisfied with her life and pushed against a wall discovered a kindred spirit in someone close to her age who shared similar hobbies. It’s understandable how she might embrace friendship more quickly than expected. However, episode 7 was the turning point where the narrative became unrealistic, making me question why Jan continues to trust Alice to such an extent as we have seen so far.
Despite Conrad and Paul pointing out that Jan is still not well-acquainted with Alice, she unexpectedly steps out from the fortress-like Harrigan manor during a violent gang war, risking her own safety to comfort a friend who needs support. Ignoring Conrad’s previous advice and his evident agitation, she approaches a woman who is no longer hiding her intention of gathering information.

Frankly, it appears that Jan lacks knowledge or intentionally ignores certain things at this stage. Alice isn’t hiding her curiosity about Harry and Conrad anymore, and it’s clear she’s steering the conversation in a specific way. To be honest, the whole storyline of MobLand requires a bit of imagination; while it’s a fantastic show, pondering over many characters’ actions for too long can leave you puzzled. However, Jan’s tale with Alice has deviated so much from its original course that it’s becoming quite aggravating for me.
Jan & Alice’s Story Needs A Big Payoff – What Could Happen?
One (Or Both) Of The Two Women Could Meet An Unfortunate End
In simpler terms, this storyline is heading towards a climax, and it won’t take long to get there. It seems that Jan or the Harrigans will eventually understand Alice’s ultimate plan, considering her increasingly direct inquisitive nature. Given the dangerous environment of MobLand, it appears that Alice’s time might be running out, as Conrad could easily end her life even without his recent volatile behavior caused by Maeve and Richie’s manipulations. If Alice is exposed and killed, this event would accelerate Fisk and Musaka’s efforts to bring down the Harrigan crime empire, making this storyline crucial.
As a movie buff, I’d put it this way: It seems like Jan isn’t in the clear either, and it’s not just because the Stevensons are on her tail. Maeve has been subtly trying to divert attention away from herself as the mole in the Harrigan family, and with all that Jan’s done, Maeve has more than enough reasons to cast suspicion her way. Leaving the family during a war and getting overheard by Paul talking about gangsters might just be the final straw Maeve needs to seal the deal as the traitor. With the subplot becoming increasingly frustrating and consuming a significant portion of our screen time, it feels like we’re nearing a climactic resolution in MobLand.
