Lord Buffalo cancels European tour after drummer was detained by U.S. border officials
The Texas-based psychedelic-Americana group, Lord Buffalo, has called off their forthcoming European tour following the incident where their drummer, Yamal Said, was removed from an airplane by border control officers on Monday.
With deep regret, we must inform you that our European tour has been unfortunately cancelled. Our drummer, who is a Mexican citizen and a permanent resident of the U.S., was detained by Customs and Border Patrol at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport on May 12 during our flight to Europe,” the band shared in a recent social media update.
According to the group, Said has not been released from custody.
The band announced, “At present, we’re collaborating with an immigration attorney to gather additional details and work towards his release. Unfortunately, we have to cancel our tour as we channel all our efforts and resources towards ensuring Yamal’s safety and freedom. We remain optimistic that this is a short-term issue, and there’s potential for us to rearrange this tour at a later date.

Concerned foreign students in California, as well as other parts of the United States, are hesitant about domestic travel during the summer, following recent instances of student visas being revoked or student statuses being terminated.
Lord Buffalo later updated the message to announce that Said has secured legal representation.
A representative from U.S. Customs and Border Protection stated that Said was apprehended during a flight on May 12, as there was an outstanding arrest warrant against him. Later, he was handed over to local authorities.
The Times has reached out to Lord Buffalo for comment.
In recent months, a Texas-based music group isn’t alone in having to reschedule or call off performances because of immigration complications.
As a passionate film buff speaking, back in April, the remarkable British artist known as FKA twigs shared some disappointing news on Instagram. Regrettably, she had to scrap a string of concerts across North America for that month, including her performance at Coachella 2025. The reason behind this was due to persistent complications with her visa.

Trump’s visa policies have foreign musicians on edge. How will they affect Coachella and touring?
As Coachella approaches, there’s growing unease among global artists due to visa concerns and potential impacts from President Trump’s efforts to suppress dissent.
Recently, the Spanish-language music festival, Michelada Fest, which was set to take place in Chicago and featured international artists, was unfortunately called off because of visa-related worries.
In our efforts to bring you an unforgettable experience featuring your beloved artists, we’ve encountered some unexpected challenges due to the fluctuating artist visa situations and political climate. Regrettably, we can no longer guarantee the complete festival experience as initially envisioned. Despite our best efforts to persevere, it has become apparent that we won’t be able to present the full lineup as originally planned.
As a passionate movie-goer putting pen to paper, I’d say it this way: “As an indie production company gearing up for the show, we can’t shoulder a major gamble given all the unpredictability lurking just around the corner.
As your friendly neighborhood movie-goer, I was eagerly anticipating the star-studded lineup for this month’s festival. The talented troupe Grupo Firme, the radiant Anitta, the captivating Danny Ocean, the electrifying Tokischa, and the charismatic Luis R. Conriquez were all set to take the stage in July. It was going to be a night of unforgettable performances!
