Danny Dyer Admits Intimacy Coaches Made Filming Sex Scenes on Rivals Awkward
In simpler terms, Danny Dyer openly shared that he experienced discomfort while filming the sensual love scenes for the racy Disney+ version of Jilly Cooper’s popular romance novel, Rivals.
Previously known EastEnders actor, aged 47, takes on the role of Freddie Jones in an eight-episode series. His character engages in some steamy scenes with Lizzie Vereker, a role played by Katherine Parkinson from The IT Crowd.
For Danny, capturing that electrifying on-screen connection didn’t always mean easy sailing during our intimate scene filmings. I was fully committed to making it work, though.
In the latest chat, the actor disclosed the true circumstances surrounding the provocative scenes, revealing that they collaborated with intimacy experts on location.
He expressed that the job is quite unusual, considering it involves being permitted to physically touch another person in a specific way – which is an integral aspect of the role, as he shared with The Mirror.
Pondering over a very open moment, he mentioned: “In the movie ‘Rivals,’ where I enact a sensitive scene involving intimacy, I had an intimacy advisor inquire about my feelings.

‘I said I enjoyed it, but sometimes a relationship counselor can make things feel a bit uncomfortable. In the past, people just went ahead and did what they wanted to do.’
Despite the awkwardness, Danny is no stranger to baring it all on camera.
In the iconic movie “Human Traffic,” released in 1999, he starred in his debut sexual scene, which included both partnered and individual performances.
After Danny disclosed that he’s picked up a surprising aristocratic game favored by royals as part of his preparation for the upcoming season of Rivals.
At Sunday’s BAFTA Television Awards, TopMob was conversed with after winning the best male performance in a comedy category for his role as Lee Campbell in My Bigstuff. During the conversation, he admitted that he’s been taking polo lessons, causing him an uncomfortably sore backside.
Danny mentioned that producers have signed him up for an extensive equestrian training program, after which he’ll master riding skills and subsequently learn to hit a ball using a mallet while on horseback.
At the Royal Festival Hall on Southbank, actor Danny, portraying Freddie Jones, shared: “This week, we’re shooting season two of Rivals. I’ve taken up learning polo, quite a challenge it is. My days are filled with riding horses now…
And on his moustache, Danny added: ‘Oh, and this isn’t for fashion either…’

The man with three children continued to smile broadly following his win of a highly respected award, marking his first BAFTA throughout a career that extends over four decades.
In a heartfelt speech filled with emotion, Danny confessed that he was overcome with feelings upon receiving the award. He then expressed his gratitude to his two daughters, Dani (28) and Sunnie (18), who were present, by exclaiming: “Girls, Sunnie and Dani… I’ve achieved it, girls, I’ve finally done it!
During the event, seeing his daughters among the spectators caused the star to become tearful.
After securing his victory, Danny elaborated on the significance of the award to him and what his detractors from the past may comment.
Or:
Following his triumph, Danny went ahead to discuss how valuable the prize was to him and what his long-term critics might remark.
He quipped: ‘Oh, there’ll be some people fuming!
‘I don’t know, man. I’ve earned it. I only want one; I don’t need more than this. I’m happy.
Over time, I’ve taken home a few NTAs (National Television Awards), and I’ve always enjoyed winning and losing them, feigning happiness for others while secretly clapping with a sullen expression… I’ve played all those games, and I was expecting to do the same tonight.
2021 has been a fantastic year for me, as my project ‘Rivals’ has been met with great acclaim. It’s quite unusual, indeed, because here I am with ‘Rivals’ and ‘Mr. Bigstuff’, and I’ve managed to achieve success.
Danny emerged victorious against competitors Bilal Hasna, Dylan Thomas-Smith, and Nabhaan Rizwan in the categories Extraordinary, G’wed, and Kaos respectively.
