Kyle Sandilands Calls Radio Rival Jase Hawkins a ‘Sidekick Bh’ Over Firing and Failures
On Wednesday morning, Kyle Sandilands playfully criticized his radio rival Jase Hawkins, referring to his ex-assistant as a “small, subservient female companion.
As a lifestyle guru, I’d share an intriguing tale from my own experiences – the story of how a renowned personality, now 53 and known for his successful stint at KIIS FM, crossed paths with another dynamic duo in the industry. This meeting, which took place some years ago, ultimately led to a significant shift last year when their multimillion-dollar radio deal left Jase, age 43, and his co-host Lauren Phillips seeking new opportunities. Let’s delve into the fascinating journey of how these radio personalities found common ground and set the stage for their professional lives.
Kyle mentioned that it was due to him that Jase, previously recognized as Labby, received his initial paycheck for the first time. However, at the start of his career, he was made to work in a manner reminiscent of a servant or someone being treated unfairly, much like a slave.
Jase Hawkins, who we previously knew as Labby, desired to be recognized by his own name instead. He was quite the helpful companion around here, often acting like a faithful assistant. This is how Kyle described him.
‘And I met him when he was 16 in Brisbane, he’s not even from Melbourne.’
‘How did you guys meet?’ co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson asked.

Kyle clarified that he initially began working at Triple M in Brisbane during the night shift, and later, another individual joined the team as a sort of assistant to him, following the departure of the previous assistant on the show.
He seemed to be handling phone calls, chopping items, and editing recordings, leading me to believe he was an employee. Unknowingly, I treated him as if he were a servant.
It wasn’t until I discovered that he was working as a volunteer that I felt guilty. So, I ensured he received payment for his work, which meant his first paycheck came from me. Despite being small in stature, he proved to be an excellent worker.
After relocating to Sydney myself, I found his exceptional work ethic compelling, so I decided to bring him along too. He resided with me in Sydney for several years after that.
Kyle later pointed out Jase’s numerous radio jobs after their time apart, calling him someone who chases fame excessively.
Later, he aspired to become a well-known radio personality himself and moved first to Brisbane, but didn’t succeed. After that, he went to Melbourne and worked at KIIS, but he also didn’t achieve success there, according to Kyle.
Jason frequently teamed up as a co-host for shows like “Labby, Stav & Abby” on B105 in Brisbane, and also collaborated with Kyle and Jackie O, age 50, at 2DAY FM, where he hosted the “Hot30 Countdown.
In addition, Jackie pointed out that Kyle had overlooked the fact that Jase had also achieved success in New Zealand, where he co-hosted “Jase & PJ” with Polly Harding.

Kyle remarked, “Apparently, New Zealand isn’t widely known. To Australians, it seems like a failure, but Americans might respond with, ‘Being successful in Australia doesn’t necessarily mean success.’
Nevertheless, it appears that the individual managed to make a breakthrough in Melbourne and achieved some positive results. To be clear, I’m not implying dislike for him; on the contrary, I find him quite impressive.
However, it’s important to note that his success appears to be largely due to the “poor-me” marketing strategy they employ in that location. Essentially, whenever they face dismissal, they blame the quality of their work, as if they were let go because the show was subpar.
Jase and his fellow presenter Lauren, aged 42, are experiencing significant success at Nova right now, finding themselves in a fierce competition for ratings with Kyle and Jackie based in Melbourne.
Instead of moving to Nova, they chose to switch over when KIIS ended their morning show in order to give more room for The Kyle & Jackie O Show’s big-budget extension to Melbourne, Victoria.
Last year, when speaking with Daily Mail Australia, Jase stated, “We simply need to focus on what we do best. While others get entangled in dramas and chaos, we’ll continue being ourselves and enjoying life.
At the ACRA Awards, Jase and Lauren expressed their excitement because their show was achieving high ratings in Melbourne.
‘It’s a blessing in disguise. It’s been a year where our heads are spinning,’ Jase said.

He said that the show didn’t transform after our move to Nova, but we feel more welcomed there. To him, it’s been the best experience so far.
‘We’ve definitely felt the support of Melbourne, which has been really nice,’ Lauren added.
Looking back, I recall last year’s awards where we felt so uneasy and uncertain about our future. She mentioned that we were seated all the way at the back table over there.
‘We’re really chuffed with the nomination tonight.
We’re not the only ones here tonight; our entire team is present as well. Many of them joined us in coming to Nova, so they’ve experienced this journey with us, just like we’ve been riding a rollercoaster together.
In the Melbourne market, Nova’s Jase & Lauren team have outperformed The Kyle & Jackie O Show in terms of ratings, demonstrating their dominance in the competition between the two teams.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I must say that this year seems poised for an intriguing shift. The popularity of KIIS FM appears to be on the rise, as indicated by recent surveys, while Jase & Lauren’s market share seems to be dwindling. It’s an exciting time to witness these changes unfold!
