Rivals’ second season is “so much better than the first”, says Danny Dyer

Danny Dyer has teased that Rivals season 2 is going to be “so much better than the first“.

The Disney+ show delves into the cutthroat maneuvers and romantic entanglements within the realm of ’80s network television, and they’re gearing up for filming the second season by next week.

Last night at the BAFTA TV Awards, where our tech-businessman character, Freddie Jones (played by Dyer), and his co-stars were nominated for several prizes, Dyer was present.

Following his victory as the Best Male Comedy Actor for the Sky series “Mr Bigstuff”, instead of “Rivals”, the actor expressed to Digital Spy and various media outlets that the prospect of going back to Rutshire is definitely something to look forward to with great anticipation.

“I start shooting on Wednesday for Rivals series 2, 12 episodes,” he said.

The place is incredibly rich and vibrant, and I can hardly contain my enthusiasm! We’ve wrapped up season 2 of ‘Mr Bigstuff’, which should be releasing in July.

He went on to say, “Let me focus solely on getting Freddie back, and I must admit, this series surpasses the initial one. It’s like dealing with the notorious ‘second album syndrome,’ but in truth, the writers and producers have truly outdone themselves.

To be completely honest, I’m eagerly looking forward to everyone getting a glimpse of it. Working alongside Katherine Parkinson has been a delightful experience that I truly cherish.

Dyer mentioned that the “spirit” or “vibe” of the project, titled Rivals, sets it apart from other productions he has been involved with.

He elaborated, “The actors I’m working with are incredibly talented. Each and every performance, regardless if it’s a few lines or a lengthy monologue, is exceptional. It really motivates you to step up your own performance.

He expressed his fondness for the ’80s, appreciating its nostalgic charm. He finds the fashion and music from that era incredibly appealing, as he put it in conclusion.

Season 1 concluded with Freddie and the romance novelist Lizzie Vereker, both struggling with sexless marriages, succumbing to their mutual feelings for one another in a moment of passion, under the open sky in a field.

You can watch Season 1 of “Rivals” on Disney+ right now, but as of yet, there’s no specific timeframe given for the premiere of Season 2.
