Star Wars Revives Obi-Wan’s Forgotten Hidden Path Plotline in New Disney+ Series
The Disney+ series featuring Obi-Wan Kenobi took a significant amount of time to delve into and clarify a crucial plot point in the Star Wars universe that may have been overlooked by many fans. However, the latest Disney+ series has reintroduced this concept and developed it further. With time, an increasing number of stories set within the Empire’s rise period, from Revenge of the Sith to A New Hope, have emerged in the galaxy far, far away. This list includes Obi-Wan Kenobi and the recently premiered Tales of the Underworld.
3 years ago, “Obi-Wan Kenobi” debuted on Disney+, giving fans a chance to reconnect with Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi who was compelled to return to action after the occurrences of “Revenge of the Sith”. In this series, one major subplot that was further developed centered around something called the Secret Route (also known as just The Path). You can learn if there will be a second season of “Obi-Wan Kenobi” here.
For the very first time, Obi-Wan Kenobi unveiled to Star Wars spectators a secret route known as the Hidden Path. He explained that this covert network served as a sanctuary for young Force-sensitive individuals and surviving Jedi, aiming to elude the Empire’s control. However, the Hidden Path faded into obscurity following Obi-Wan Kenobi, only to be reintroduced in Tales of the Underworld more recently.
In the recently debuted Star Wars Disney+ series titled “Tales of the Underworld“, launched on May 4, 2025 (Star Wars Day), the initial three episodes primarily delve into the enigmatic “Hidden Path”. The narrative revolves around Asajj Ventress, a character resurrected from the dead, and a budding Jedi named Lyco Strata. Throughout these episodes, their primary objective is guiding Strata towards the elusive Hidden Path.
In the recent show, the Hidden Path made a comeback for the first time post the release of the “Jedi: Survivor” video game, however, it delved deeper into this concept than the game itself. As revealed in “Tales of the Underworld”, Quinlan Vos was the initiator of the Hidden Path.
In the captivating series, Obi-Wan Kenobi, my presence was hinted at, as my name, among others, appeared on a wall in one of the bases where the Hidden Path operated. When Obi-Wan stumbled upon my name during the show, he sought clarification from Tala about me. She casually mentioned that I “lend a hand occasionally” and my role was centered around “smuggling younglings.” However, it was the tales of Underworld that officially revealed that I was the one who initiated the entire operation.
In the initial three installments of “Tales of the Underworld,” The Path remained a significant narrative element until its resolution at the end of Episode 3. At long last, Ventress and Strata discovered an underground sanctuary where individuals were being covertly transported from a barren desert world. Ventress believed her mission was accomplished.
She decided voluntarily to guide Strata along the Secret Way towards the Jedi, but declined to accompany him because she couldn’t join Quinlan Vos post-resurrection. Yet, it turned out in the final scenes that Strata didn’t manage to board the ship for reunion with the Jedi. Instead, he remained with Ventress.
Did Tales of the Jedi Set Up a Quinlan Vos Series About the Hidden Path?
Following Obi-Wan Kenobi, some fans speculated that the Star Wars franchise might delve into the Hidden Path more frequently across various future projects. Yet, contrary to these expectations, this intriguing concept turned out to be underutilized and not revisited in any of the Disney+ series.
With the reintroduction of the Hidden Path in “Tales of the Underworld”, it paves the way for its future use. Although there might not be enough compelling content to launch a new series dedicated solely to the Hidden Path, Star Wars could potentially produce another “Tales” installment focusing exclusively on the Path. Possible titles for this new chapter could be “Tales of the Path” or “Tales of the Hidden Path”.
Introducing more screen time for the increasingly popular character, Quinlan Vos, could be beneficial. This move might also present opportunities to introduce fresh characters within the expanding Star Wars universe.
It appears that with the six-episode seasons of the Tales series (now available on Disney+), it presents an ideal platform for narrating stories involving The Path. The fact that Quinlan is featured in the premiere episode of Tales of the Underworld lends credence to speculation that Star Wars might be considering a future return for this character.
