Thunderbolts Dominates Box Office Again, Sinners Breaks $200M – What’s Next?
Marvel’s Thunderbolts maintained its triumph at the North American box offices by holding onto the number one spot for another week.
Over the weekend, I was absolutely thrilled to witness the record-breaking success of my favorite superhero blockbuster, raking in an astounding $74.6 million at the box office! Though its earnings dipped significantly during its second weekend, it managed to maintain its dominance and secure the top spot.
This weekend, Thunderbolts earned approximately $33.1 million, marking a significant decrease of about 55.5% compared to its opening weekend earnings, as reported by Box Office Mojo.
For the second consecutive week, Warner Bros.’ popular thriller, Sinners, has maintained its strong performance by holding onto the number two position on the box office charts, following two successive weeks of being the top-grossing film.
As a devoted fan, I found myself once again drawn to the theaters where “The Minecraft Movie” and “The Accountant 2” continued their impressive run, occupying the third and fourth spots this past weekend. The three fresh releases unfortunately didn’t stand much of a chance against these spring blockbusters that have captured my heart and many others’.
In simpler terms, the movies “Clown in a Cornfield,” “Shadow Force,” and “Fight or Flight” ended up ranking fifth, sixth, and seventh at the box office, respectively, with disappointingly low earnings.

In simpler terms, the Thunderbolts movie experienced a typical decline of about 55.5% for a major studio blockbuster, earning an average of $7,644 per theater from its screening in 4,330 locations.
The total earnings in the U.S. now stand at $128.4 million, and with an extra $34 million earned abroad, the international total has reached $143.7 million. This brings the worldwide total to a grand sum of $272.5 million.
The movie is said to have cost around $180 million to produce, and an additional $100 million was allocated for promotional expenses like advertising.
By the closing of the following week, it’s expected that the film will surpass $300 million globally. However, whether or not it can continue its success to hit $400 million and beyond is yet uncertain.
In its fourth week at cinemas, director Ryan Coogler’s acclaimed film “Sinners” earned $21.1 million, showing only a minimal decrease of 36.3%.
I’m absolutely thrilled to share that our beloved movie has just grossed a staggering $283.3 million globally! It raked in an impressive $68.9 million from fans overseas, along with an additional $6.6 million from foreign markets. But here in the U.S., it’s been nothing short of a phenomenon, earning a whopping $214.4 million domestically! It’s moments like these that make me feel so grateful to be a part of this incredible fan community.
In the upcoming week, it’s predicted that Sinning (as in the movie) will reach a total of $300 million worldwide, much like how thunderbolts can be seen in the sky.
In contrast to Thunderbolts, it boasts a production budget of approximately $90 million, while its promotional and advertisement expenses are estimated to be within the range of $50-$60 million.

The blockbuster film adaptation of Minecraft remains the ruler at global box offices, surpassing $408.9 million in domestic sales and an additional $500.6 million from international markets, resulting in a whopping total of $909.5 million worldwide.
In the fourth position, The Accountant 2 earned approximately $6.09 million. Meanwhile, the new release Clown in a Cornfield opened to $3.6 million across 2,277 screens, resulting in an unimpressive $1,602 per-screen average.
Shadow Force and Fight or Fight opened in sixth and seventh position respectively, each earning approximately $2 million in their respective 2,170 and 2,153 theaters. This translates to a strong per-screen average of around $928 for both films. Completing the top 10 were Until Dawn with $2 million, The Amateur with $1.1 million, and The King of Kings with $680,656.
This upcoming weekend unveils the much-awaited prequel titled “Final Destination: Origin,” also featuring The Weeknd and Jenna Ortega in “Tomorrow’s Rush” along with “The Deception.
