Every Fight From To Be Hero X’s Nice Arc, Ranked From Weakest to Most Epic
Everyone was taken aback when the protagonist unexpectedly changed in Episode 5, but as the story unfolded, fans began to understand the rationale behind it. Over the course of several episodes, the series shifts its focus from Lin Ling’s transformation into Nice and then his individual hero journey, known as the Commoner. From Episode 5 onwards, the show will delve deeper into E-Soul’s character and other main characters.
In “To Be Hero X”, every battle is uniquely personal for its respective hero, as each storyline weaves a deeply emotional and physical journey for the protagonist, much like Lin Ling’s battles demonstrate. The animation, combining both 3D and 2D techniques, serves to highlight these intense encounters, as evidenced by Lin Ling’s past fights.
Episode 3 — “The Ever-Standing Hero”
In the short-lived meeting with an unidentified champion, the ruthless dynamics within the hero community in To Be Hero X are vividly portrayed. As Detective Nice delves into the mystery of Wolf Girl, he unexpectedly crosses paths with one of the numerous champions. This chance encounter results in him being liberated from a confined sewer. However, upon discovering that Nice was probing the matter of Wolf Girl, this hero resorts to an underhanded assault on Nice, attempting to eliminate him stealthily.
An unidentified novice hero attempted to conquer Nice city as a means to battle and overpower the Wolf Girl, aspiring to reach the pinnacle of the hero rankings with such a victory. However, Nice swiftly defeated the inexperienced hero with a single strike, demonstrating his power significantly surpasses that of an average amateur hero.
Episode 3 — “The Ever-Standing Hero”
Lin Ling, from Nice, discovered an interesting truth: Wolf Girl was none other than the girl whom Firm Man had saved previously. She also understood a surprising fact – the transformation of Wolf Girl into a villain wasn’t to harm Firm Man or his reputation but to give Firm Man a fall from grace in his life for once. Remarkably, it was revealed that Firm Man’s hero persona had such an impact on his personal life that he found it difficult to take a break, even for something as simple as using the restroom.
In this scenario, Lin Ling unveils Wolf Girl’s true identity, shocking Firm Man and making him stumble. This turn of events suits Firm Man poorly, but not the statue precariously perched above. Fortunately, Nice manages to prevent the statue from toppling, earning himself a spot among the top 10 heroes. Instead of a physical battle, this incident underscores the negative impact of the Trust Value system on heroes, yet it serves as an impressive showcase of Nice’s abilities, enabling him to subdue the villain through his eloquence rather than brute force.
Episode 1 — “Nice”
In the broadcast of True Love Recipe, both Lin Ling and Moon are taken aback when they discover that the guest host is none other than Enlightener, also known as the Eye of Truth, who holds a rank of 249th in the Association. To their surprise, Enlightener unveils his plot to exact retribution on Nice for defeating him in the hero rankings. The villain he has enlisted is none other than Lin Ling’s ex-boss, Cheng Yaojin. Following a string of rejections and letdowns from projects, clients, and underperforming employees, Cheng Yaojin became increasingly agitated and resentful. Eventually, this anger led him to cross paths with the Enlightener, who mistakenly believed that Lin Ling had taken her own life due to Nice’s persistent project denials. With newfound powers, Cheng Yaojin seeks revenge on Nice for all the wrongs he perceives.
Previously, Nice had never engaged in a battle against any villain, merely maintaining an appearance. However, with the responsibility of protecting Moon and others, Lin Ling leaped into action to confront Cheng Yaojin. The anime brilliantly executes this scene, as Nice and Lin Ling seamlessly exchange places, demonstrating that Lin Ling is truly assuming his role as Nice. A punch so powerful was delivered that it instantly vanquished Cheng Yaojin, enabling the group to apprehend him. This fight served to portray Lin Ling’s character by highlighting that his power stems from his desire to be near Moon.
Episode 2 — “Moon”
In episode 2 of “To Be Hero X”, characters Nice and Moon confront their adversary Wreck in a fierce battle. Their objective is to trick Moon into abandoning heroism by having Wrath stage Moon’s death, which would boost Nice’s popularity and provide Moon the freedom to live her own life, giving the impression that she had perished. However, Wreck thwarted their scheme and uncovered that Nice was an imposter, leading him to retaliate against Nice and Moon with immense force in a quest for revenge on behalf of the genuine Nice. This results in one of the most thrilling fight scenes, where Nice and Moon collaborate effectively to conquer Wreck. Their abilities complement each other as they employ their powers to counteract Wreck’s capacity to devastate the surroundings. Wreck is deeply hurt because he and the real Nice were friends or even romantic partners, and discovering that Nice had taken his own life was so painful that it intensified Wreck into an even more formidable villain.
In a twist of fate, Moon’s abilities connect her to Nice, but this doesn’t hinder her from effectively utilizing her powers to teleport and aid Nice in perilous scenarios. The combat sequence is masterfully coordinated and carries significant emotional impact. Lin Ling aims to halt Wreck, while simultaneously protecting Moon. Despite J, their manager, urging them to retreat and let other heroes intervene, Nice feels compelled to engage in this battle, demonstrating his personal growth. In the end, Moon and Nice manage to vanquish Wreck, with Nice delivering a final, powerful blow that sends him tumbling off a cliff, suggesting his possible demise.
Featured in Episode 4 — “The Commoner”
In the opening episode of “To Be Hero X”, the character known as the Enlightener endeavors to unmask Lin Ling as an imposter Nice. This revelation unfolds throughout the series, reaching its peak in Episode 4 during a critical confrontation between the two characters. Earlier, Lin Ling’s fans had urged him not to confront God Eye (the Enlightener’s villainous alias), out of concern for his safety, but he chose to disregard their pleas and pursue God Eye on the rooftop. Upon reaching his destination, Lin Ling confessed that Nice was deceased and that he had been maintaining the facade. Despite this shocking admission, Lin Ling’s intention remained to rescue Moon from God Eye. The issue arises because, by abandoning the Nice persona, Lin Ling is now powerless against God Eye.
In the story of “To Be Hero X,” audiences are compelled to witness God Eye brutally attacking Lin Ling, as his powers are absent. This intense battle is one of the most gruesome in the anime so far. However, Lin Ling’s courage during this ordeal rekindles the faith of the people once more. With his Trust Value elevated to match Nice’s levels, Lin Ling ultimately defeats God Eye and emerges victorious, earning the title “The Commoner.” By highlighting Lin Ling’s genuine desire to be a hero and demonstrating his heroic qualities even without his powers, the show concludes Nice’s storyline with a memorable fight for Lin Ling.
