Rivals Cast Glam Up at BAFTA TV Awards but Walk Away Empty-Handed in Stunning Night Shocker
At the 2025 BAFTA Television Awards held on a Sunday night, the cast of The Rivals gathered once more – however, their Disney Plus series failed to win any awards.
Emily Atack was accompanied on the red carpet at Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall by her fellow cast members Nafessa Williams, David Tennant, Alex Hassell, and Bella Maclean.
The humorous show titled “Racy Comedy, Rivals,” adapted from Jilly Cooper’s 1988 novel of the same name, has garnered nominations. Specifically, David received a nomination for Best Lead Actor, while Katherine Parkinson was recognized in the category of Best Supporting Actress, both for their outstanding performances in the series.
Despite neither of them winning awards, the actors all wore smiles as they linked arms for a group picture on the red carpet.
Hello there! As a lifestyle enthusiast, I recently donned a chic, 80s-inspired ensemble that’s worth sharing. Instead of Emily, I opted for a white dress adorned with broad shoulder pads and short sleeves – a tribute to the iconic style reminiscent of Rivals from that era. To complete the look, I paired it with bold, long leather gloves. Let’s bring back some retro flair!
35-year-old Nafessa dazzled in a vibrant red PVC dress, featuring a neckline that dropped off her shoulders and a front split.

Laura Wade, Dominic Treadwell-Collins, Jilly Cooper, Danny Dyer, Felicity Blunt, Alex Lamb, and Alex Hassell all came together.
Emily beamed broadly as she struck a pose alongside Alex Hassell, who exuded elegance in his black jacket, matching brown slacks, and a striking brown bow tie.
In the evening, it was announced that the contender for Leading Actor, David from Rivals, who was a strong favorite for the award, unfortunately did not win. Instead, the prize went to Lennie James for his outstanding performance in the BBC series, Mr. Loverman.
As I gleefully sat there, my heart pounding in anticipation, it was clear that this night belonged to none other than the charismatic Mr. Loverman! Earlier in the evening, his exceptional talent was recognized as James’ remarkable co-star, Ariyon Bakare, took home the Supporting Actor award, but tonight, it was all about our beloved star!
Speaking candidly from the stage of London’s Royal Festival Hall, I found myself in an unexpected predicament when I confessed that I hadn’t planned or prepared anything ahead. I simply didn’t anticipate this opportunity knocking on my door.
The unexpectedly popular BBC show is adapted from Evaristo’s book with the identical title, which tells the story of a man grappling with the idea of leaving his wife to be with his male partner.
Elsewhere, Mr. Bates vs The Post Office claimed two accolades as the annual TV BAFTA Awards.
As an utterly devoted fan, I must say it was quite encouraging to witness ITV kick off the year on a high note. However, what followed at the grandest event in our industry left me utterly speechless. The broadcasting titan, that’s ITV, was unexpectedly overshadowed by none other than the BBC. After a triumphant year of exceptional programming, they swept the board clean, leaving us all awestruck!

This year’s event saw Auntie’s unquestionable rule, causing several popular choices to lose out on awards. Notably absent from the winners list were ITV’s beloved duo Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, as well as the highly anticipated Amazon Prime series Rivals and its star, David Tennant.
However, despite securing multiple accolades in previous years, The Traitors reality show failed to win a fourth consecutive award at this year’s ceremony, dealing a slight setback to the BBC.
Additionally, both Baby Reindeer on Netflix and the heartwarming Gavin & Stacey Christmas special garnered significant accolades, filling the Royal Festival Hall in London with applause.
Following its debut in 2024, the innovative ITV series “Mr. Bates vs The Post Office” garnered numerous accolades, including a National Television Award for Toby Jones as Best Lead Actor, a Sky Arts Award, and a Venice TV Award. As such, it was anticipated to capture a significant portion of the limelight during Sunday evening’s awards ceremony.
