On Sunday, tears brimmed in Ruth Jones’ eyes as she received the award for Best Actress at the British Academy Television Awards, honoring her remarkable performance in the final episode of Gavin and Stacey.
During the glamorous ceremony, the 58-year-old actress who portrayed Nessa on the show was given the award for Outstanding Female Performance in Comedy. Upon accepting the prize, she acknowledged her long-term friend and collaborator, James Corden.
In a manner reminiscent of her famous character, she humbly received the accolade, admitting surprise about winning the award and subtly mentioning upcoming collaborative literary endeavors with her costar.
The humorists received a nomination for the unforgettable moment in the last episode of Gavin & Stacey, titled “The Finale,” where Mick unexpectedly stood up during Smithy’s wedding.
It seems they’re still working on it, with Ruth, who embodied grace in a stunning electric blue dress, expressing her admiration for their shared artistic skill.

17 long years since that iconic BBC comedy graced our screens for the very first time, I, as an obsessed fan, couldn’t help but feel a mix of excitement and sadness as Gavin and Stacey wrapped up their extraordinary journey with a heartwarming Christmas special. The ‘perfect’ conclusion left fans like me in awe, eager to share our gratitude for the incredible ride we’ve been on together.
Originating in 2007 following creation by actors James and Ruth, this series came to an end as on-again-off-again lovers Smithy and Nessa publicly proclaimed their affection and got married. However, the journey wasn’t without its bumps in the road.
Viewers eagerly anticipated if Smithy would agree to Nessa’s proposal in the 2019 Christmas Special episode. However, a surprising five-year leap forward showed that they were indeed planning to get married, but things weren’t as straightforward as they appeared.
On Sunday, the 2025 BAFTA Television Awards hosted by P&O Cruises will be happening at the Royal Festival Hall located at the Southbank Centre.

This drama is inspired by one of the most significant miscarriages of justice in the British legal system, where numerous innocent sub-postmasters and postmistresses were falsely accused of theft, fraud, and accounting errors due to a faulty IT system.
In the nomination count, both Mr. Bates and The Post Office, as well as the Disney series Rivals and Apple TV’s Slow Horses, all received six nominations each.
Among the nominees for the top honor in the entertainment category are Ant & Dec, The Traitors, and Stacey Solomon’s Life-Sorting Mission.
Here are the top nominees for leading actress: Anna Maxwell Martin (Until I Kill You), Billie Piper (Scoop), Lola Petticrew (Say Nothing), Marisa Abela (Industry), Monica Dolan (Mr. Bates vs The Post Office) and Sharon D Clarke (Mr. Loverman). In simpler terms, these are the actresses who have been recognized for their outstanding performances in various films and shows like “Until I Kill You,” “Scoop,” “Say Nothing,” “Industry,” “Mr. Bates vs The Post Office” and “Mr. Loverman.
In a new twist, David Tennant, Gary Oldman, Lennie James, Martin Freeman, and Toby Jones are all vying for top acting honors with their roles in “Rivals,” “Slow Horses,” “Mr. Loverman,” “The Responder,” and “Mr. Bates vs The Post Office” respectively.



21 candidates from the performance categories have each earned their initial BAFTA Television Award nominations among the total of 44 contenders.
Actor Danny Dyer, known for his soap opera roles, has been nominated for his first BAFTA award in the Best Male Comedy Performance category, thanks to his work in Mr. Bigstuff.
Crime shows Blue Lights and Sherwood will face off against Supacell, a superhero show, and Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light, a well-regarded historical drama.)
