Hidden Avengers Endgame Scene Reveals Unseen Team-Up and MCU Backstory

Given the massive scale of the Avengers: Endgame production, it was inevitable that some scenes would be trimmed. However, there’s one fight sequence in particular that I deeply wished had been included. With a runtime of 3 hours and 1 minute, Endgame is the longest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), a testament to its grandeur as it brought together the Infinity Saga’s climax. It’s no surprise that such a significant milestone for the franchise warranted a large-scale project.

Even though the movie Avengers: Endgame spanned three hours, it didn’t seem like enough given the multitude of characters involved. The half of the Avengers who were dusted in Infinity War made a comeback for the climax of Endgame, which resulted in their screen time being somewhat restricted. Amidst the intense battle against Thanos, the film strived to give each character a moment in the spotlight. Regrettably, one exciting team-up was eliminated from the final cut, but this Marvel Cinematic Universe actor still views it as part of his character’s history.

Avengers: Endgame Almost Featured 1 Cut Scene With M’Baku, Drax & T’Challa

M’Baku And Drax Helped Cover T’Challa

2023 saw actor Winston Duke sharing a deleted scene from the movie “Endgame” on Instagram, which showcased his character M’Baku, alongside T’Challa and Drax. Given that these three characters vanished during the Snap, their involvement in the Battle of Earth was crucial to Thanos’ defeat. In the video Duke posted, T’Challa is seen sprinting with the Infinity Gauntlet while pursued by Thanos’ followers. To protect T’Challa and facilitate his escape, M’Baku and Drax used their weapons to fend off the chasing army.

It’s too bad that the scene featuring the sidelined characters from Avengers: Endgame didn’t make it into the final movie, given they were mostly overlooked throughout the storyline. Yet, given the sheer amount of action happening on the battlefield, it’s not entirely surprising. The fact that Duke shared a clip of this scene four years after Endgame‘s release is quite delightful, and it underscores the extensive effort poured into the film beyond what ultimately made the final cut.

Winston Duke’s Comments About The Avengers: Endgame Scene Make It Even More Special

The Actor Considers The Cut Scene Canon

Back in 2018 with the release of Black Panther, it was M’Baku who enriched the realm of Wakanda for me and many other viewers. His character resonated deeply with fans, leading to his return in both Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. Fast forward to 2022, M’Baku graced the screen once more in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and has been confirmed for an upcoming appearance in Avengers: Doomsday. Now that T’Challa is no longer with us, Shuri has taken up the mantle of Black Panther. With this change, I believe M’Baku will step forward as a valuable ally in the coming battles ahead.

In a fresh light, Duke’s initial 2023 post caption seems even more significant now, given that M’Baku is set to recur frequently in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Originally, a scene featuring him was deleted from Avengers: Endgame, but Duke still views it as part of M’Baku’s narrative history. The confirmation that M’Baku participated in the Battle of Earth as canon lends depth to his character. This means that when M’Baku reappears in Doomsday, his return won’t just be a first-time encounter with a major threat, but rather a continuation of his alliance with the Avengers.

Why The Avengers: Endgame Scene Makes So Much Sense For The MCU Movie

The MCU Has Always Been About Team-Ups

The appeal of the MCU’s larger team-up films lies in the opportunity for characters from different series to engage with one another. Although T’Challa and M’Baku were already familiar with each other, their effortless collaboration with Drax, a newcomer from the Guardians of the Galaxy, highlights the unity among all Avengers working towards a common objective in Avengers: Endgame. Even though this particular scene was left on the cutting room floor, it’s heartening to imagine such team-ups taking place across the battlefield.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) Avengers movies shine brightest when characters from various teams unite, enhancing the films into epic blockbuster spectacles. Moreover, this collaboration significantly boosts the MCU’s world-building efforts, as the franchise is intended to be a connected universe. Scenes like M’Baku, Drax, and T’Challa’s interaction in Avengers: Endgame, though ultimately removed from the final cut, can still play a significant role in fleshing out their individual backstories.
