The rules are straightforward yet ruthless: they must keep their pace above 4 miles per hour. If a contestant slows down for more than 30 seconds, they receive a warning. Receiving three warnings leads to immediate elimination – being executed on the spot by the soldiers overseeing the event. The victor is granted any wish for the remainder of their life. The narrative largely follows Ray Garraty, a 16-year-old from Maine, as he embarks on this grueling and deadly competition, forming tentative alliances and observing the devastating impact the walk has on the boys’ bodies and minds.

In this movie, Francis Lawrence (“The Hunger Games” series) takes the helm as director, with Cooper Hoffman portraying Raymond Garraty and David Jonsson in a principal role. The ensemble also includes Mark Hamill as a foreboding Major supervising the Walk, as well as Judy Greer. Set for release in cinemas on September 12, 2025.
