Squad Busters May 2025 update: New features and additions explained
Heroes are arriving
Initially, we thought the game would never be the same when they said goodbye to the Archer Queen and Mortis permanently. But then, two more characters followed suit, leaving us utterly astonished. The twist was, these beloved figures are making a comeback in the game as new Heroes.
In Squad Busters, each game starts by selecting your preferred character, who possesses exclusive abilities you can deploy during combat and an ongoing trait that enhances your team’s performance throughout the battle. These abilities have cool-down periods before they can be used again, while traits remain active at all times. You’ll initially select two abilities to use from the start.

Additionally, every character comes equipped with a turbo boost, allowing your team to speed up more quickly. Some characters even have unique dashing abilities. This update introduces four new characters: the Barbarian King, Archer Queen, Royal King, and Mortis. A fifth character is hinted at, but no specifics have been revealed yet.
Each of these four roles has a unique playstyle: Fighter, Hotshot, Supplier, and Summoner. To start, you’ll receive your first hero at no cost, allowing you to pick between the King or Queen. The other three characters can be obtained using coins or through special events. Additional information is provided in the following section.
Squaddies join the Heroes
While Heroes form the mainstay of your offensive lineup, Soldiers serve as reinforcements, or auxiliary troops, to support your Heroes. Each Soldier comes with a unique passive ability, and as they progressively level up, their skills and powers become more potent.

Gathering identical soldiers permits combining them to create more powerful entities, and with this new update, if you encounter two identical soldiers in combat, they merge automatically. An additional one? That transforms them into a Super Soldier. Super Units aren’t returning, but the concept of “Super” persists to some extent.
Soldiers will perish if the Hero falls, so be vigilant in keeping them safe here. The soldier evolution system is structured as follows: Infant, Regular, Powerful, Exceptional, and Supreme. Similar to heroes, they too have distinct playstyles associated with each level.
Hero Journey System

As a fan, I’m thrilled about the new addition to the menu: the Hero Journey system! This feature allows me to enhance my hero’s abilities, characteristics, and speed boosts using something called hero points, primarily earned by completing daily tasks. Throughout this adventure, I can also unlock various skins, emotes, and new team members. Each hero will have their unique journey.
Mega Pinata Event
In essence, this gathering is all about making a specific character available. You can secure Barbarian King, Archer Queen, and Royal King on the update day itself, but for the time being, Mortis can be accessed only during the Mega Pinata event.
The Daily Pinata events will be incorporated into the game a couple of days following the update release. To unlock these rewards, you’ll need pinata sticks. Use them to break open pinatas, which could potentially contain Mortis. Invite your friends for pinata groups to speed up your progress during the event.
