Tom Cruise Praises Nicole Kidman as Ana de Armas Spotted Alone After London Getaway

For over twenty years, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman have been divorcees, yet he continues to hold high regard for his former spouse’s skills.

62-year-old Cruise is currently in London, not because of his girlfriend Ana de Armas‘ solo trip back to the U.S., but to accept an esteemed fellowship from the British Film Institute.

Before receiving the award on Monday, the Oscar nominee had an interview with the organization’s magazine, Sight and Sound.

Reflecting on his movie Eyes Wide Shut, directed by the late Stanley Kubrick, Tom Cruise confessed that he had proposed his then-spouse for the part of their onscreen couple.

I found the event truly enjoyable, and I was thrilled to be part of it. Having seen many of Stanley’s films prior, my introduction to him came through Sydney Pollack. As a result, Stanley reached out to Sydney because he wanted me to work on a film. He communicated this intention to me via a fax, as he shared later on.

As a seasoned lifestyle connoisseur, I found myself winging my way to his residential haven, touching down in the serene expanse of his backyard. The day before our meeting, I immersed myself in the script, eagerly preparing for our impending conversation. With an extensive knowledge of his cinematic oeuvre, particularly his collaborations with Scorsese and Sydney Pollack, I was well-versed in his artistic journey and working style.

As our bond deepened, it became primarily me and him exploring one another. During this time, I confidently proposed that Nicole embody the character of Alice. After all, she’s undeniably an exceptional performer.

Cruise mentioned that the tale about a physician, who delves into the hidden realm of secret liaisons following his wife’s disclosure of her desires, was collaboratively created with the filmmaker.

He shared that the event was quite exceptional, not a big team involved. We touched down during summertime, and essentially, we initiated the testing phase right away… the concept was merely an initial thought at the time. As we progressed, we were consistently revising scenes, shooting them, and then re-shooting them to truly capture the film’s atmosphere.

Despite mixed reviews both from critics and viewers, the erotic thriller not only covered its $60 million production cost, but even surpassed it due to the high salaries of its star-studded cast, such as Tom Cruise’s $20 million fee and Nicole Kidman earning a reported $6.5 million.

57-year-old Kidman shared in a 2023 essay for The Hollywood Reporter that Stanley Kubrick initially had to persuade her to incorporate some of the film’s sexual content, but they filmed scenes that were significantly more explicit than what made it into the final cut.

“I genuinely felt secure, not once did I sense any manipulative or foolish behavior. Interestingly, his interactions with women were significantly distinct from those with men. Given that he has daughters, his demeanor towards me was more like a protective father figure.

Kubrick died in March 1999 at age 70, just months before the film’s release. 

According to reports, Kidman was allegedly taken aback when Cruise announced his intention to divorce in February 2001, stating ‘unresolvable conflicts’ as the reason.

According to Mike Rinder, a former member of the Church of Scientology, he asserted in his book “A Billion Years: My Exodus from the Highest Echelons of Scientology,” that Tom Cruise’s involvement and Nicole Kidman’s decision not to join the church played a role in their separation.

It’s been said that there have been instances where the actor from Top Gun: Maverick appears to be distanced from his daughter, Suri Noelle, who is 19 years old now. This might be due to the fact that she is not a member of Scientology, and it’s reported that followers of this religion tend to avoid those who don’t share their beliefs.

In reports, it’s mentioned that his current girlfriend, Ana De Armas, who is 37 years old, practices Catholicism, similar to Kidman. It remains uncertain whether this shared faith will sustain their relationship over the long haul.

On Saturday, she was observed entering the United States, radiating happiness and good health with an enormous grin, even though she arrived without the presence of the movie star next to her.

Following his award ceremony on Monday, Tom Cruise will hurriedly depart for Cannes. There, his newest Mission: Impossible movie, titled “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,” is scheduled to be shown during the film festival on Wednesday.
