Star Wars Shocker: Cad Bane’s Secret Fatherhood Revealed in Tales of the Underworld!
The animated series by Lucasfilm, titled “Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld“, revealed an unexpected turn concerning one of the galaxy’s most notorious villains.
At Star Wars Celebration 2025, it was first revealed that all six episodes of Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld were released on Disney+ on May 4th. The last three episodes centered around Cad Bane (portrayed by Corey Burton), a mysterious bounty hunter known for wearing a cowboy hat, who had previously appeared in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and later transitioned to live-action in Episode 6 of The Book of Boba Fett.
In Episode 4, the narrative of Bane’s “Tales of the Underworld” unfolds, reaching its climax in Episode 6 titled “One Good Deed.” It is during this episode that we learn about Bane’s hidden role as a father.
The intriguing tale of Cad Bane’s past unfolds in Episode 4, titled “The Good Life.” Here, we catch a glimpse into his challenging upbringing on the streets alongside his loyal friend, Niro. Their lives take a turn when they start working for a criminal, dressed in a cowboy hat named Lazlo. However, during their time together, it’s Cad Bane (also known as Colby) who manages to flee with Lazlo, while Niro is apprehended by the police.
In Episode 5 titled “A Good Turn,” I unfortunately meet my end on Bane’s home planet. This tragic event leads Bane to embrace the mannerisms of my late mentor, and in turn, he revisits the past, including his relationship with Arin. During this journey, we discover that my former guide, Niro, has found a place on the right side of the law, now serving as a deputy under the marshal who took my mentor’s life.
In my quest to bring justice for Lazlo’s untimely demise, I, Arin, found myself wounded. Yet, amidst the pain, I seized an opportunity – Bane’s blaster, to be precise. This move allowed him to be apprehended instead of meeting his end in a hail of bullets from Niro. Consequently, Bane spent years behind bars, a price he had to pay for his actions.
In Episode 6, I find myself unexpectedly free due to a technicality, and my thirst for retribution intensifies. This anger is fueled even more when I discover that Arin had married Niro before her demise. To make matters worse, Niro is already grappling with the looming threat of my return, compounded by the presence of Arin’s young son, Isaac.
In a turn of events during their confrontation, Cad Bane discovers Niro. Isaac, a young lad who’s deeply attached to his father, unexpectedly interrupts the gunfight. Instead of letting them be, he steps in, hoping to keep his dad by his side. However, as Niro attempts to convey something important that Arin wanted him to share with Bane, Cad Bane disregards this and shoots Niro regardless.
In response to Bane lamenting that he’d lost everything when he said, “You took everything from me,” I, Niro, gently caressed Isaac’s cheek and whispered as my life ebbed away, “No, not everything.
In a poignant moment, as I gazed mournfully at Cad Bane, it dawned on him that my identity had been revealed: I was his biologically born son. Niro, who’d taken me under his wing after marrying Arin and during Bane’s incarceration, had kept this secret all these years.
The scene concludes as Isaac grieves over the loss of his true mentor, while Bane, adorned in a likeness of Lazlo, departs.
Cad Bane’s Fatherhood Storyline Is a Star Wars Tradition
As a devoted movie critic, I can’t help but appreciate the pivotal role of father-son narratives in the Star Wars saga. From the epic tale of Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker to the heartrending journey of Anakin Skywalker, who lost his mentor, Qui-Gon Jinn, in the prequels, these stories have left an indelible mark on the franchise.
Fast forward to the sequel trilogy, and we find ourselves engrossed in the complex relationship between Ben Solo and Han Solo, a connection that unfolds powerfully in The Force Awakens. The Star Wars universe never ceases to amaze me with its ability to interweave such deep and emotional father-son storylines into its grand cosmic tapestry.
Furthermore, just like Cad Bane’s narrative in Tales of the Underworld, this three-episode arc underscores the notion that family patterns may recur when a generation strays from the right path, and it also emphasizes the distinction between a biological parent and a true caregiver.
The last three episodes of “Tales of the Underworld” revealed previously unknown details about the bounty hunter, Cad Bane. If he reappears in live-action or animated series, his backstory could significantly alter viewers’ perspectives of him as a character. However, there is uncertainty about Cad Bane’s fate following “The Book of Boba Fett,” as it is unclear whether he perished in that series.
