Clown in a Cornfield 2: Shocking Twist, New Killers & What Really Happens Next Revealed

Caution: This article discloses plot details from the 2025 film “The Clown in the Cornfield” and offers minor revelations about the 2022 book “The Clown in the Cornfield 2.”

As a huge fan, I can’t help but express my anticipation for more tales to unfold in the highly anticipated sequel, “Clown in a Cornfield 2”, set to grace our screens in 2025. The directorial genius behind “Tucker & Dale vs. Evil”, Eli Craig, teams up with Carter Blanchard, screenwriter of “Independence Day: Resurgence”, to deliver another chilling slasher experience. This time around, we follow the journey of Quinn Maybrook (Katie Douglas), as she relocates to the small town of Kettle Springs, Missouri. Here, an unnerving series of events unfold as teenagers mysteriously start disappearing and meeting their untimely demise at the hands, or should I say clown shoes, of a menacing figure dressed as Frendo, the former mascot of the Baypen corn syrup factory. Once the heart and soul of Kettle Springs economy, this factory has since succumbed to a devastating fire. The eerie atmosphere that lingers around its ruins promises to make this sequel a terrifying spectacle indeed.

The sequel to the 2025 film, “Clown in a Cornfield,” hasn’t been approved yet. But if the original movie does well and a follow-up is produced, there are still many storylines for it to explore. This movie was adapted from Adam Cesare’s 2020 novel, which he has since expanded with two sequels: “Clown in a Cornfield 2: Frendo Lives” (released in 2022) and “Clown in a Cornfield 3: The Church of Frendo” (scheduled for 2024). In essence, these books have already set the stage for a successful film franchise, similar to how the original book has thrived on paper.

How Clown In A Cornfield’s Ending Sets Up A Sequel

Not Every Frendo Is Dead

In the finale of “The Clown in a Cornfield,” there are numerous unexpected turns, both written and visualized on-screen. The film does a good job of sticking close to its original source material, particularly with the major plot points. Interestingly, in both tales, it’s unveiled that Frendo isn’t merely one murderer but a group of adults from Kettle Springs who are targeting disobedient teenagers. This leaves only Quinn, her father Dr. Glenn Maybrook (Aaron Abrams), and her friends Cole (Carson MacCormac) and Rust (Vincent Muller) alive.

In simpler terms, the main culprit among the Frendo killers is revealed to be Mayor Arthur Hill, Cole’s father (played by Kevin Durand). Despite being injured during his last encounter with Quinn, he manages to survive, implying that there’s a chance we might see him again in future installments, as hinted by the scene before the credits where Quinn discovers a jack-in-the-box in her car.

There are several plot lines within the tale of “Clown in a Cornfield” that hint at potential sequels. For instance, multiple individuals might assume the role of Frendo, suggesting that anyone could take over as the killer clown. Furthermore, it’s suggested that this violent incident is not an isolated event for Kettle Springs adults, indicating a history of similar acts of violence in the town, which could easily continue into future stories.

Quinn & Her Father’s Story In Clown In A Cornfield 2: Frendo Lives Explained

Both Characters Appear In Frendo Lives

In the hypothetical scenario where “Clown in a Cornfield 2” is adapted from a second novel, the narrative would continue to center on Quinn Maybrook if filmmakers decide to do so. While additional characters are introduced around her tale in the book “Frendo Lives”, she remains the central figure in the sequel. The story resumes approximately a year later, with Quinn at college in Philadelphia, dealing with rumors that she masterminded the Frendo attacks alongside Rust and Cole.

Currently, Dr. Maybrook serves as the mayor of Kettle Springs. There, eccentric entrepreneur Eli Duvall has turned a cornfield into a chilling clown-themed horror hayride. Strange occurrences are taking place in town, with both conspiracy theorists and Frendo impersonators being spotted. During Rust and Cole’s visit to Quinn’s dormitory, they are interrupted by a gun-wielding Frendo. However, quick action from Quinn swiftly ends this encounter. Unfortunately, Quinn soon receives word that her father has been attacked by another Frendo, compelling her to return to Kettle Springs and confront a new wave of terror.

What Else Happens In The Clown In A Cornfield 2 Book

Rust & Cole’s Relationship Is On The Rocks

In the sequel Frendo Lives, the remaining characters from Clown in a Cornfield reappear. For Cole and Rust, their budding romance has not magically transformed into a fairytale ending. Instead, their contrasting personalities continue to cause tension – with Cole’s flamboyant lifestyle clashing against Rust’s small-town perspective. This discord is further exacerbated when Clay starts texting Hunter Duvall, Eli’s son, which fuels a powerful surge of jealousy within Rust.

In the meantime, it’s been discovered that Arthur Hill has discreetly returned to town after spending time abroad, gathering a fresh army of Frendos from various parts of the world through online means. By fueling rumors about Quinn and her circle, he has managed to regain his influence, and he is determined as ever to complete the task he initiated last year.

Other significant characters make their appearance or gain importance in the second book, apart from Hunter and his father Eli. Among these are Jerri, a theater worker who survived the cornfield massacre and is haunted by the memory of his sister Dorothy’s death. Also notable are Marta Lee, the newly appointed sheriff working alongside Mayor Maybrook, and Jane Duvall, Hunter’s mother, who has largely withdrawn from society.

Clown In A Cornfield 2’s Social Satire Gets Even Darker

It Directly Tackles Very Sensitive Topics

[…] (Excerpt from the review) […]

The character of the Clown in the Cornfield could be both unsettling and gruesome, yet skillfully employs teen horror stereotypes while acknowledging their existence, resulting in an authentic blend. Moreover, it delivers numerous comedic moments with perfect timing, making for a challenging yet entertaining balance between humor and terror. Although not every attempt at striking the balance is successful, the cast’s enthusiasm adds to its appeal.

In my take on things, the sequel to “Clown in a Cornfield” amplifies its chilling tactics, using contemporary events to fuel its terror. Not only does it stir up the online turbulence ignited by Arthur Hill, but it also echoes real-world issues through the new Frendo cult’s likeness to the insurrection that occurred in Washington D.C., particularly on January 6, 2021. Although I assume the initial draft of “Frendo Lives” was penned prior to this event, it seems plausible that later versions were influenced by this incident or the broader sociopolitical climate that gave birth to such a spectacle.

Due to the sensitive topics tackled in Frendo Lives, the creators of a potential Clown in a Cornfield 2 might opt for a change in direction, creating a more conventional slasher sequel with its own unique narrative. Yet, if they decide to incorporate the material from the sequel novel, it could garner critical acclaim similar to or even surpassing that of the original film.
