Squid Game: Who Survived Season 2?
The finale of Squid Game season 2 was filled with carnage, but the teaser for season 3 hints at which characters managed to survive and carry on with the competition. Although there could be over 90 survivors in total, not all of them were significant characters throughout the Netflix show. Season 2 primarily focused on a select few. These included Gi-hun’s teammates, antagonists who emerged as villains, as well as individuals whose compelling personal tales and connections kept viewers hooked. However, during the climactic deaths in season 2, Squid Game didn’t show any favoritism.
Indeed, characters met their demise frequently during the second season of “Squid Game” – such is the inherent nature of the competition. However, the last few episodes witnessed an alarming increase in fatalities. Characters like Thanos perished in the intense bathroom fight, and matters grew even more tumultuous when Gi-hun instigated a rebellion against the guards. Unfortunately, many of Gi-hun’s associates fell during this struggle, including Jung-bae, his comrade from outside the game. The season 2 finale left us without an official tally of survivors, but the trailer for season 3 appears to confirm those who managed to endure.
8. Gi-Hun
Player 456
In the hypothetical second season of Squid Game, Gi-hun almost reached the control room, but his friend Young-il intervened, preventing him from achieving success. However, unbeknownst to them, Player 001 (the Front Man) had only allowed Gi-hun to advance far enough to give him false hope of victory before suppressing the uprising. The Front Man revealed himself by murdering Jung-bae in front of Gi-hun, and since then, we haven’t seen these characters in Squid Game season 2.
In the trailer for Squid Game season 3, it’s revealed that Gi-hun will be back at the players’ dorm, but in an unexpected manner – he’ll be carried there inside one of the elegant coffins typically used to transfer deceased contestants. This incident serves as a stark reminder to the remaining survivors: any future rebellion could lead to everyone’s demise. Consequently, it appears increasingly doubtful that Gi-hun will make it through the final season of Squid Game.
7. Hyun-Ju
Player 120
In the upcoming season 2 of “Squid Game”, Hyun-ju proved to be Gi-hun’s invaluable partner. Given her background in special forces, she was a formidable marksman with firearms. She skillfully coordinated the fighters, strategically deploying their strengths, and showed remarkable patience and compassion in training them all to handle guns effectively. Regrettably, the combatants found themselves rapidly depleting their ammunition. Hyun-ju dispatched Dae-ho to retrieve more ammo from the dormitory, but he mysteriously failed to return.
In the moments before the Front Man quelled the rebellion, Hyun-ju chose to venture back to the dormitory on her own to check on her comrade and gather ammunition if necessary. Since she was at this location when Gi-hun was apprehended, she avoided the execution that befell the other players who remained in the corridors.
6. Dae-ho
Player 388
In Squid Game season 2, Dae-ho boasted about his past as a marine, but it appeared that most of this was bluster. When the rebellion took place, Dae-ho faltered under the pressure. He was too fearful to shoot and eagerly offered to go back to the dormitory to gather ammunition instead. To be fair to Dae-ho, he effectively searched all the fallen guards for their magazines. However, he couldn’t muster the courage to rejoin the fight.
In the trailer for Squid Game’s third season, Dae-ho momentarily appeared as Gi-hun’s casket was carried into the dormitory. His demeanor suggested embarrassment and timidity, a stark contrast to his lively persona in season 2. As we move forward into the new episodes, it seems that Dae-ho will struggle with his cowardice while participating in the competition. It remains to be seen if Hyun-Ju will provide support or perhaps a bit of teasing instead.
5. Geum-Ja
Player 149
Geum-ja is one of the most altruistic participants in the Squid Game, not competing for personal gain but with the intention of repaying her son’s gambling debts. She aspired to provide him with a debt-free life and was prepared to sacrifice her own life to make it possible. However, she wasn’t aware that Yong-sik had registered for the games on his own.
Throughout the second season of Squid Game, Geum-ja demonstrated unselfishness, sharing her food with pregnant Jun-hee and showing empathy towards her son when he deserted her to save himself. During the rebellion, she chose to stay hidden in the dorm, thus making it through the end of the season 2. In the sneak peek for Squid Game season 3, we observe Geum-ja receiving a ball of a distinct color compared to Yong-sik, hinting that the mother-son duo might find themselves on opposing teams in the forthcoming episodes.
4. Yong-Sik
Player 007
Geum-ja, Yong-sick’s mom, joined the games in “Squid Game” season 2 primarily because of their son’s gambling problems. Due to his addiction, he accumulated a massive debt that was causing immense stress for their family. In an attempt to ease this burden, Geum-ja decided to participate in the games herself. However, Yong-sick felt both stunned and ashamed when he saw his mother participating, and these feelings intensified throughout season 2 as Yong-sick’s own fearfulness became evident.
In the upcoming season of “Squid Game,” it’s shown in the trailer that Yong-sik and his mother will be on opposing teams during one of the games. Since Geum-ja prevented Yong-sik from joining the player uprising, he is still alive heading into this final season. The series hints at a tragic outcome for their team alignment. Throughout “Squid Game” season 2, Geum-ja expressed her desire to bring home her son safely. Yet, season 3 could offer an opportunity for Yong-sik to perform a heroic act for his mother.
3. Jun-Hee
Player 222
In the upcoming season 3 of Squid Game, it’s confirmed that Jun-hee, another character from the series, managed to survive Gi-hun’s rebellion because she was residing in the player dorm during that time. Her character, Geum-ja, shrewdly observed that Jun-hee was concealing a pregnancy, making her storyline even more heart-wrenching. Previously, Jun-hee and Myung-gi had been in a relationship, but it crumbled when Myung-gi suffered heavy financial losses due to an unlucky investment in the bitcoin market.
The upcoming third season of Squid Game might suggest a significant role for Jun-hee, as the final trailer ends with a baby crying. This could imply that Jun-hee may have her child while participating in the games. However, the exact implications for her character and how this will unfold in the brutal competition of Squid Game season 3 remains uncertain.
2. Myung-Gi
Player 333
In a nutshell, Jun-hee’s partner, named Myung-gi, was a prosperous finance YouTuber before he advised his audience on a speculative trade, which resulted in substantial financial losses for him. This unfortunate event caused him to distance himself from Jun-hee, yet he harbored the belief that winning the cash prize from the gruesome tournament of Squid Game would rectify their situation. Unbeknownst to him, Jun-hee had also entered the competition.
In the third season of Squid Game, Myung-gi chose not to participate in Gi-hun’s rebellion, suggesting he will carry on with the games. With Thanos out of the picture, it might be simpler for Myung-gi as he won’t face such high risks of being ambushed and killed between matches. However, if Jun-hee delivers her baby during Squid Game season 3, all predictions could go out the window.
1. Seon-Nyeo
Player 044
In simpler terms, Seon-nyeo remains one of the enigmatic characters in the third season of “Squid Game.” Her peculiarities are likely to deepen further. Although her past as a shaman is known, the reasons behind her descent and subsequent participation in these games remain unclear. However, it’s evident that she is highly driven to emerge victorious.
In the upcoming third season of Squid Game, Seon-nyeo is an unpredictable factor. While other antagonists like Thanos are no more, there’s a feeling that Seon-nyeo could be equally menacing. She harbored resentment towards Yong-mi, who met her end in season 2. It remains to be seen if Seon-nyeo’s anger will be directed at Hyun-ju. Only Squid Game season 3 will reveal the truth.
